Germino v. Reinhardt

Germino, Reinhardt, and Metro. They all are excellent. None of the three suck. But I'd be curious for thoughts and opinions regarding the JTM45 clones... too close to call? One of the guys do it slightly different? One more authentic a clone that the others? Doesn't matter? Etc...

Thanks.

All I know is that the Germino Club 40 = amazing heavenly hot buttered tonal sex.

That is all.

I think the germino is closer to a clone, but it's done right! I played one in Greensboro a couple of years back and it was a rockin' little amp that cleaned up beautifully. I do believe Greg offers a few nice options too.

I own the Reinhardt Sentinel. It has a few modern appointments like external test/bias and tube/ss rectifier along with a preamp charachter switch that makes it either a vintage or modern frontend.

Both guys are great builders! Both amps are of outstanding quality and workmanship. Greg and Bob have different tastes, so their amps may be voiced slightly different from one another.

I played a Classic 45 recently and was really impressed... it sounded very very close to an actual 45, too close to bother with, really. But I wanted to see if the Reinhardt was also at that level.

Yeah, people always say Germino on this forum. I tried one a year or so ago and didn't like it. Now I think it was due to the fact that it might have been a Super Lead-style (LV 55?), which I generally don't like the sound of anyway, at least not the clean sound. But on a whim I tried the Classic 45 (along with the Super Bass, my favorite Marshall clean sound) and finally got what everybody was talking about. It was excellent -- a very Super Bass/JTM 45/Fender Bassman-style rounded, warm clean tone, with distortion on tap at the guitar volume knob. Maybe even a little tighter in the low end than even a real JTM 45 and certainly a bit more headroom -- an all-around excellent amplifier. Even priced very competitively and reasonably.

That said, people love their Reinhardts and the guys at the Metro forum are fanatical. They're really Metro jihadists over there. Hence the questions.

I played both makers a few years ago, they may have new stuff since the NC ampfest but at the time my feeling were that Greg offer more of a stock tribute and Bob had more of a modded Marshall flair, a good player could make them sound very similar.

I've not tried the others but own a Germino Classic 45 2x12 combo and have played several very good original JTM's. I can't imagine any JTM style amp better than the Germino from a tone and build quality standpoint.

Anyone interested in JTM-45 tones would be doing themselves a huge favor by checking out a Louis Electric Bluesbreaker. Huge, thick, rich, sound.

You left out a Mojave Plexi 45. I had one and I also had the Germino Classic 45. Never played an original so I can't speak to that, but both of these amps killed. I slightly preferred the Mojave. It was a tad thicker and I liked the breakup a little more. I think it also had slightly more gain on tap. Both amps had a nice chimey, thick clean tone.

Don't know Mr. Germino, I have met Bob R. Bob is a great guy, good ears and if you bought from him he might tweak it a bit for your tastes. Only heard good about Germino too.

Matter of what sound you are going for I think.

I own the Germino Lead 55 LV and love the amp. I have not played any of his other amps. But this amp is just awesome.
