Martin dreadnought with two pickguards
Does anyone know at which time period Martin put two pickguards on their dreadnoughts such as this (in the hands of Robin Pecknold of the Fleet Foxes):

Not sure but it was likely added.

I agree that looks like it was added later.

Possibly. I thought there was a brief period where this was done. Here is another angle. Looks like a D-18.

Yeah looks like a D-18 to me too. You should ask at the Martin forum they'd know for sure: www.umgf.com

Anything other than the standard, single pickguard, on ANY Martin, was either added later, or done at Martin's Custom Shop.

A friend of mine bought a D-35 in around 1975 with a satin finish and two symetrical pick guards, one above and one below the sound hole. It was considered a custom shop model at the time.

Yeah, I know Bob Dylan had a one-off Martin with two pickguards. I have a 1964 Gibson that's got the flamenco styling...

I was also done in some cases when the guitar was converted from righty-lefty or lefty-righty.
