Getting more mA out of the Voodoo Lab PP2+

The outputs on the PP2+ provide the following power ratings, outputs 1-4, 9vdc 100mA, outputs 5 & 6, 9vdc 250mA, and outputs 7 & 8 9vdc 100mA.

I've got a couple of pedals which use more than 250mA current draw, my Moogerfooger MuRF uses about 300mA as rated in the manual.

Is it possible to use a Y-cable to combine the outputs to get more than what one will provide?

For example combining output 1 and output 5 to get 350mA?

Thanks very much guys!

Christopher.

combining the outputs would combine the voltage too, so you may not want to do that. also, have you tried the murf on one of the 250mA outputs? it might work just fine.

I've tried the murf on the 250mA, actually I've been using it like this for the longest time. There's a volume drop in the pedal and the effect itself is not as lush as it would be powered on 300mA.

Sadness.

oh okay, well i dont know if the murf can handle being powered at 18v so i wouldn't try using a y cable

You need to use a different power supply for the MURF. There's no point in potentially damaging your PP2. Plugging something into it that draws excessive current will burn it up.

Wiring power supply outputs in parallel CAN be used to get higher current ratings, but it isn't safe to just plug a Y cable into it; it needs to be wired up in a certain way to assure that nothing gets damaged.

Thanks very much for the responses.

I actually did quite an extensive search on TGP, but the posts seem to be a little inconclusive, some folks tried the y-cable approach and it worked, others advised against it.

Either way I'm not gonna risk it!

I'll wait and see if there's another power supply worth investing in, newer pedals these days have much higher current draws, possibly making the PP2+ obsolete in that sense.

A friend of mine has a musicom power supply, the same guys who make that pedal switcher, gonna check them out too.

You should check out the JuiceBox:
http://www.pedalgear.net

Two outputs of 9vdc @ 500ma.
