OD/Distortion Pedal Shootout - High Quality

Anthony from StevieSnacks.com/OldToneZone.com has posted one of the best side-by-side OD/Distortion pedal shootouts I've seen.

Here is the link: http://www.oldtonezone.com/distortio...edal-shootout/

He shows every setting used, with music or without, for many of pedals discussed regularly on these forums. This is simply amazing work!! I wish this was around when I GASed for all those friggin' stompboxes in my search for a close SRV tone...

Check out Anthony's two sites (links above) for GREAT video lessons for the blues, SRV, and general guitar playing techniques. His stuff is extremely professional, high quality (many lessons are in HD!), and is updated frequently.

Cheers Anthony and keep up the great work!

Dang you're fast. I figured I'd get a good nights sleep before I started advertising. You beat me to it

gr8bluesgtr,

Coincidentally, I'm work in advertising and, I tell you, we never sleep - especially when there is this kind of stuff to share.

Thank you metz420! I really owe my life to you! I haven't even listened yet but I know this will be perfect because Anthony always plays similar styles as I do and all those overdrives are ones that I am thinking about. I had heard that he was going to do this but I completely forgot.

Thanks

Edit: Best Shootout by far. Video, Settings, Music, No music, clean, half gain, full gain, everything!

I'd say the Bad Monkey and Sparkle Drive. They really sound much better than the others on full gain. Most sound good for the clean boost but just get too muddy sounding at full gain in my opinion.

Nice demo setup, but he missed out on some key TS voiced pedals IMO: Boss OD-3 (???), Abunai II, MJM Blues Devil, Landy DO/MojoDrive, etc.

Cool idea and execution but....yuck--too many damned TS and TS clones.

Very nice.

Wish there were more pedals represented, but it would be impossible to please everyone.

I completely agree about the "too many TS Clones". However, I was limited by the pedals available to me. The main goal of this first pass was to represent the most commonly available pedals, in this case, everything they had at Rainbow Music.

I am hoping that more boutique manufactures will send me their pedals to add to this.

Should have called it the Overdrive Pedal Shootout.
There's only two decent distortion pedals there. The rest are OD's and some good one's demo'd so good work there.

I'd suggest 2 separate shootouts.
One for OD's and 1 for distortion pedals

Cool - it's amazing how close the cheap Ibanez TS-7 sounds to the TS808. More pedals of course would be cool --- but also testing with humbuckers and maybe more styles of music! Good job!

I really, really like the format of this, and hope you'll keep it up with other OD pedals and other kinds of effects as well. It was very informative and nicely controlled.

BTW, for my money, Bad Monkey sounded the best.
