Anyone using Warehouse speakers?
Hey fellow amp builders,
Anyone out there using Warehouse Guitar Speakers in their amps? I've read good things about them, BUT I'm very concerned about customer perception. A lot to be said for having a trusty well known brand (i.e. Celestion) in there when a would be buyer peers in the back. They can relabel speakers with your logo, but insist on having their info on the label as well.

For the price difference, just slap eminence or celestion in, and offer other stuff as an option.

I went thru a phase where I had to try every 12 that was built in significant numbers (I used to build my own amps, but only for myself and friends).
The WGS stuff isn't bad, but if any of your customers have an eye for detail, they may notice some unevenly applied dope, and gaskets that appear a little funky (but are 100% functional) when compared against Emi, Celestion, et al. From a marketing standpoint, I think the decals could be better as well. I do have a Green Beret that sounds so good that it's permanently paired in a cab with a G12-80. If WGS still ships thru UPS, make sure you set up other shipping arrangements with them (if you go with them) - I received a Vet 30 from them with a bent basket. I'd personally go with Emi for the versatility of the huge line, as well as great consistency. I think that the Patriot decals look a little doinky, but they already have a cult following. If you're looking for great old school Jensen tones, I'd at least consider Weber. Even their Sig series sound great - they've replaced some really premium stuff in my Vibrolux Reverb. |

I offer WGS and Eminence in my amps, most opt for Eminence. I personally prefer the WGS Green Beret with my little amp, but I think most people like to go with something they recognize. I won't even consider offering Celestions because of the amount of crappy sounding speakers they've sent me over the last 2 years...un-freaking believable.
I really like Weber speakers, but if I'm going to spend the money, I want a nice British or Vintage Series, and they take a few weeks.

I bougth a V30 and Classic Lead back when WGS was blowing them out at $25.
These went into a Lopo 2x12 cab and I thought the sounded great after breaking in. The doping was fairly heavy so it took a while for the break in. But at there current prices I'm not sure they are worth it although they are probably better than the Chinese Celestions.

I don't know why they get a bad rap, I personally haven't tried/ heard them. It seems they would sound the same as the Heritage spkrs since they are built to spec with the same parts, no? Like I said, I probably would have never bought the WGS spkrs if they were at their current price. But at $60 shipped I couldn't pass them up. But they are currently in boxes because I put a couple Tonkerlites in the cab. The jury is still out on those.....

Jensen Neos here for the most part along with some Eminence.
I am using some of Celestions Heritage speakers in some amps and still use some Tone Tubbys. I do like Celestion's Chinese speakers just fine though. I just don't care for the price tag and can't become a dealer unless I order a full palette of speakers, which I don't need and don't have room to store. I have not tried Warehouse speakers, so I can't comment, but I find brand recognition to be pretty important among my customers, so I really can't even consider them. Honestly, though, it really just depends on what the customer wants. Since we do mostly custom orders, we put whatever they want in there.

Have you had a chance yet to try the G10M's? If so, did they sound anything like a G12M? |

I really love the Eminence line... but if a builder has found the right speaker for their amp.. I'm always willing to try it out... I can always change them to something else later.

I haven't noticed any huge fit and finish issues with the WGS stuff, there is a little bit here and there, but they are great sounding speakers that are made here, not overseas...kind of a big thing for me. Eminence also does great work and offers a plethora of options, which is good for the customer. I mainly push the WGS stuff in my amps because I like how they sound, and it makes my amp just that much different from every other boutique out there.

Paul, I have tried the WGS Black n Blue and the ET-65. The B&B is as good as a Celestion Blue to my ears. And the ET-65 is working great in one of my 17 watt amps (it will be the speaker I ship in them).
Have someone else make the custom labels for you. |

Well, Wayne is coming by this week to bring me some samples, so I'll get to consider them first hand.
