John Frusciante's solos in Slane Castle Concert

Intro solo, solo on Scar Tissue, etc.

so...Fuzz Factory or DS-2 -> Big Muff ?

I know this has been debated already, and I've read through the really long posts and all that, but I couldn't find an answer.

I just watched the concert again and I am just floored by that solo tone - I want it! haha. I don't have a DS-2, but I've tried running my Xotic BB Preamp and my Catalinbread Hyperpak into the Big Muff, played around with various settings and got frustrating and not being able to get that wailing solo tone. (I played strat into Marshall JMP MV, a DRRI, or Epi VJ)

So is it just the Fuzz Factory then?
Or if it's the Big Muff, can anyone get that sound and tell me how you've done it?

for reference:

watch the whole concert if you've got the time. I had a good time rewatching it.

Thanks

Fuzz Factory will get that lead tone, especially if you have a few huge Marshalls, '60s Fenders and years of playing Hendrix under your belt!

But yeah, Fuzz Factory definitely has that searing tone without a thumping low end.

I am inclined to think ds-2. I think he uses it in Turbo mode. It gives a huge mid hump and a fuzz stacked with it?
Just a thought.

anyone know if John uses his DS-2 in Turbo mode most of the time or in "regular mode"

I was thinking the DS-2 might have been the key as well. I guess his tone differs from concert to concert. Slane Castle sounds quite possibly like a Fuzz Factory. I was also watching the Live at Rock Werchter in 2006, and it definitely sounds more DS-2 into Muff-ish. I was trying to dial in more mids with my BB preamp, but no dice still.

I heard the DS-2 in the turbo mode and it's a huge mid bump with quite a bit of compression and thickness added. Maybe it's much more the DS-2 and the Muff just adds some grit to the sound. I might have to find a DS-2 to try it out.

it's mostly DS-2 -> Fuzz Factory at Slane... on Stadium Arcadium tour it's DS-2 -> Big Muff/English Muff'n/Fuzzrite, but DS-2 is always on (mode II)
