Which multi-effects board should I choose?

Ok... here's the deal. I have a bunch of really good pedals, but I need to be able to create presets, as well as changing settings via midi on my Timefactor and Modfactor. I have come to the conclusion that the only way I am going to get exactly what I want (all in stereo) is with a Bob Bradshaw system, so I am going to do that at some point.

However, I currently cannot afford one, and won't be able to for a while, so I am considering buying a Multi-effects unit to go straight into the FOH with until I can afford a Custom Audio Electronics system. This way I can at least use presets in a cost-effective manner right now. What is the best, most cost-effective, multi-effects unit you'd recommend?

GT-10? POD X3 Live? Nova System? Any others?

Try all the MFX you can find. They all have strengths and weaknesses. Invest a few hours in reading the manual (usually available online) *before* you sit down with each unit. Think about what you expect from the MFX and see whether you can program it to do your bidding *before* you spend any money. Test the unit through a decent powered speaker to give you an idea of what it's going to sound like when you run direct to board.

I have never been happy with the drive or amp sims from a MFX. Even when I used such things, I ran a TS-9 and SD-1 as my main drive tones. If you are just looking for effects, I'd go old school Korg or Boss, they will just sound better.

Have you looked into Gigrig products and/or Voodoo Labs Bradshaw-type switcher, pedal switcher/amp selector/commander? If you're looking to get presets from just your pedals, and not a complete rack-heavy system, you might be able to get there piece-wise for less $. Just my $0.02

Yes and mario's Axxess products. Wow, lots of middle ground between the typical low quality in MFX units (most of them) and a Bradshaw system. I use a Axxess GRX4 with a midi pedal. Four loops gives me any combo of pedals (Catlinbread Chili Picoso, Freakshow "9", Xotic BB and Zen Drive). I can get any combination of those four drive pedals and the midi controller also changes programs on my Glass Nexus in the effects loop. Way easier and tons cheaper than Bradshaw.

Why don't you get an Axcess GRX4 and hook it up to the MIDI on your TF? The TF/MF can act as a fully fledged MIDI controller. You may not get full custom built MIDI implentation, but at least you will have presets, and a GRX4 will only cost you $200. Also, you will get to keep your favourite pedals, and have fun programming it all.

Hmm... interesting, I'll have to read up on it! I suppose if I use the Timefactor to control the GRX4 and put my drive pedals in the GRX4 then my TF presets can recall preset loop combinations for my drive pedals. Also... I guess I could just get a second GRX4 if i want to put ALL of my pedals in there (I have a few). This may work... now only if the Axess website wasn't currently down...
