Can't tell you anything about the old models but their current guitars are solid performers. A bit pricey tho.

Can be very cool. No huge value (except for a few models) but if it's cheap, they are cool!
This one has a painted on F hole btw

I too only know about the current models. They're very solid and can be had at super prices in the US as it seems nobody but me an a few others buy them.

I think Framus has always been a high end manufacturer. I don't think it ever had a Epiphone or Squire or MIK line or the like so the guitar if in nice shape should sound/play nice.

Framus used to be the second-best manufacturer in Germany, after Hofner. They were probably better than anything else in Europe except Hofner and Burns. Not as nice as a high-end American maker from the same time, but they made solid guitars which are available nowadays for reasonable prices. If it's in really good condition, $500 might not be unreasonable.

The new ones are made in Asia (I think Korea) and are really budget guitars.

No the new Framus guitars are made in the Warwick factory in Germany and are not budget guitars in any way.

Here is a photo of the factory in Markneukirchen

Wow, they all drive the same car...except one, he must be the Foreman!

Actually, I think the 12-string Lennon used on "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" was a Framus.

I've wondered about them too.
Some of the ones I've seen in ads in the last year have peaked my interest.

I own a 1967 Framus Golden Television. Way cool. I paid $500 for it. It looks like this one:

Sorry, it appears I was wrong. I must have been confusing Framus with some other brand with regards to their country of manufacture.

The new ones certainly feel like budget guitars to me, though.
