Demeter TGA-3 question

Hi guys! Just bought a Demeter head here on the Gear page. I guess it's an early one. Is there any differences on the TGA-3's? For example I don't see a "pull dark" on the pics of my incoming head .

Yes, the TGA3 amps have some different features.. I have 1 of the old TGA3 75 watt , torroidal transformer 1x12 combos. Shallbe on this forum has a TGA3 , "Riveratoasters" has at least 1 if he's still around , and TGA-3 (Rick? ) has at least one. .

Yes they're all slightly different. . I believe mine has a button instead of a 'pull dark' .. .When Demeter emailed me the manual years ago , mine differed from some of the stuff in the manual.

Do the amps have the same features but maybe in a different configurations? ( ex. knob rather than pull pot)

is the only manual the 100 watt version?

What is the story on the Torroidal trans? Are those the fender ones?

I don't know the answers, but I believe TGA-3/RICK knows a lot. I know some of the 1st ones had Torroidal Transformers and mine is 1 of the early ones. (Round xformer) . I remember there only being 1 manual for the TGA3, because I later got a TGA2( 1 of the 1st 5 or so) and they didn't even have a manual for that at that point.

See what you find out and let us know!!!! MY TGA3 is too noisy on the 3rd channel and to me it's BY FAR the best channel .. Mine sounds exactly like the STone Temple Pilots stuff.. I've been meaning for years to try to figure out what is causing the excess noise (When in the 'non-dark' position) .. Meanwhile, it's rich as can be , and just excellent sounding but just too much noise.. It's not tube related and possibly could be some grid resister gone or something , but I have a bunch of amps and never had the time to get to assessing this one unfortunately . . A noisegate in the fx loop TOTALLY takes care of that noise , but of course it shouldn't be necessary . Other than that it sounds exactly like Dean Deleo's STP Sounds. . . . . The other guys on this forum who have the amp play different styles than me though and different tones and I believe they like the 1st and 2nd channels... Me it's pretty much the 3rd!!! My bands used to play about 10 STP tunes, and though I always tended to use pedals and Marshalls to do it, this amp is it

Hello, All ~

That is awesome that a TGA-3 came up for sale on this board. They are very hard to fine - even on eBay they tend to only pop up once a year. I have a couple and try to buy them whenever they come around.

Congrats on a great amp!

Jason

Welcome to the gear page! Do you run 34's or 5881's in yours?

Thank you!

I run EL34's in one of them and 5881's in the other. I like both setups. I am going to start running the amps together via an A\B box (one dirty, one cleaner).

What about you?

Congrats on a great amp.

I have had mine forever. It is a 75 watter, wiith the torroidial transformer, and the first combo built. Mine also takes only 6550 tubes or 6CA7"s. I still play it nearly every day.

For channel one turn the master up all the way and use the preamp as your volume. Channel 2 sounds great in either mode, very harminically active. Channel 3 has a ton of gain---and is rich.

Unlike ericb, my amp is not noisy. He needs to get that baby fixed!

One of the best multi-channel amps of all time, IMO.

These Demeters may be the finest amps ever made.
All three channels sound equally great.

My TGP-3 with the matching Slave Amp runs silently with no extraneous noise
and is very studio friendly.
