Make an EF86 version? It's a simple variation from the Marshall 18 and IMHO offers even more tonal complexity. In any event, good luck with this endeavor!

Very cool-kinda like a low budget version of Red Iron cosmetically-instead of fancy wood you have the crate-as in packing, not those cheesy CRATE amps.

Thank you very much! Seriously, my leftist tendencies notwithstanding, the whole commie thing is really a tongue-in-cheek...

Hmmm...an interesting idea, especially if you're into that Vox thing. I think it would really make it a much different amp, though. The EF86 is a higher gain tube, and honestly, the amp is pretty hot in the preamp stage already. I can look into it, but I'm pretty sure I'd have to redesign the input structure and the bias circuit for that stage, which might just end up sounding just about the same. I think the sound of my amp has alot to do with the way that you're able to drive the power tubes at any volume level. Now if you're looking for a custom build, maybe we can talk ;-)

Looks awesome! Definitely an interesting alternative to decandent, bourgeois amplifiers!

I toy with the idea from time to time...the decision to build a head was just one of many things I did to keep the cost down. I could talk to my cabinet guy and find a speaker, if you'd be interested. Most of any additional cost would be in the speaker, I'm sure.
