That should have said he "wouldn't" do another one for twice the money.

I found a local guy that painted cars and guitars through a local music store, and gave him the guitar, the Nielsen book, and some good photos of a friends Kidz (From Japan) copy of Ricks guitar to work with. He told me X amount, I said "cool.." and I didn't hear from him for about two months or so. That was just over 10 years ago now.. Got a call, he showed up with it and I was totally stoked. I paid him and he told me he would do another one for twice the money.

Later on a Hamer guy told me about a place down in Kentucky that did inlays and sent it down there for those bow ties (Which I always thought was a custom made inlay by Hamer but are a banjo inlay..)

Next I want to die the fretboard darker..

Next, you should consider selling it to me That's been one of my dream guitars since 1978! Very cool story Jeff!

I've thought about how to do that for years. I think it boils down to buying a Hamer explorer-type guitar and convincing someone to do the refin & inlays.

It's something I came up with a few years ago purely as a concept, but it's one of five of my designs currently being built by Bennett-Maxfield Music in Chattanooga. As far as I know, there should be one or two of them at NAMM this January but I'm not absolutely certain about that.

The components and finishes can be almost anything. I like the looks of a paint finish combined with a clear wood so that's how I show this particular one but it could just as well be a solid color or entirely 'wood' and with a Rosewood or Ebony fretboard.

As far as prices go, again, I don't know where it will be set at, but I suspect it'll be fairly expensive, (something like 3.5 G's or thereabouts) and unless they give me one, I probably wont be able to afford it on my 'Artcore' budget even though it's my original design. My next guitar aquisition will probably be a red Devlin 'Imposter' or a Turser 'Surfmaster', not a JBD-400.

For much the same reason I don't wear rings or wrist watches. I play no guitar that I could potentially impale myself on....word up bro

I'm a big fan of Papa Het too. I dig the Ken Lawrence guitars.
I have an ESP KH-2 which is an awesome guitar, and a newer ESP Horizon FR-2. They don't get much love around here, but they are great players and superbly made.

^^Actually no, not his band either. I have been a explorer freak since I started playing guitar 13 years ago though, and have always found the ESPs version of the explorer shape the ultimate version(a tad pointier edges, layout of the controls,no pickguard,etc,etc...). The KL is what I like to think, the delux version of the ESP design. The sound and feel of the things are off the charts, and their build quality is second-to-none.

Since that pic was taken I`ve sold two of the ESPs and as well as the Gibson, and replaced `em with two new KLs:

Trans-Black quilted maple:

Black Limba:

So for now....I`m through exploring!
