Tim vs. Timmy???

Im sure this question has been popped several times on this board. I see alot mentioned here. What does everyone prefer? Tim or Timmy. I have one of each coming soon. Maybe the Spring. Ill have to call Mr. Cochrane to find out when.

I had a Tim last year and I liked it but they were selling for so much on Ebay I sold it! Big profit maker. Ill hold onto both of them this time though.

I had both and kept the Tim because it sounded pretty much the same and had the boost feature.

I have both and keep the Tim on my rig board. I've got the Timmy for a backup and when I want to bring a smaller board. Both sound great and I enjoy having the boost on the Tim.

Question, can the Tim get the same level of "saturation" that the Timmy can?
I am just wondering because of the trim pots inside.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks

Does the Tim do assymetrical clipping or is that only the timmy? Sprung for the Tim myself, just bought an extra long gorm shelf so size shouldn't be too much of a problem

The Tim can do both symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping via a push pull pot on the back. The Tim has a wider range of gain available do to the lower gain pot on the regular channel and the added gain from the boost channel. Of course, the base of the circuit is the same though so you can get very similar(identical) tones. At the moment I have two Tims(but one is for sale) and 2 timmy's. They are as good as any pedal out there.

I don't believe this is completely accurate. The TIM does two types of clipping via said push/pull pot, however, asymmetrical is only available on the Timmy stock. One can, however, ask Paul to mod the TIM to include asymmetrical clipping using two tiny switches mounted on the top of the TIM pedal. I had him do it, which was only 5 bucks more. I prefer the setting with both switches up. It's the most compressed sound on the TIM, but it's the perfect amount of compression you could ever ask for in a gritty dirtbox.

Put another slightly compressed TS type pedal ahead of it and you get sustain for days. Almost don't need a RAT at all.

Thanks for the info...maybe I'll ask paul to make me one with the extra switches in the future...in the mean time sure i'll have fun with my standard Tim when it arrives.

My bad, I just checked, you're right. The two types of clipping are apparently both symmetrical, just one is less compressed, one more. I'm not really sure how that works, but I'm sure someone will chime in. Both modes have a very different feel though IMO. The compressed mode seems to have tighter bass, smoother highs, and slightly more sustain.

Doesn't the Push/Pull on the TIM only work when the Boost is on?

It affects both the overdrive and the boost side.
