I've planed to test new poweramp tubes in my Rebel and i'm wondering if it's a fixed bias or if you have to check it when you swap tubes.
If it's fixed bias is it possible to set 6L6 instead of 6V6? In most amps it's possible getting more headroom and better clean. Any idea? |

There are two bias points inside . 1 for the EL84's, 1 for 6V6's.

It's written on the PCB i suppose?
So you can use 6L6, right? |

I wouldn't use 6L6 tubes without checking with Bruce first. They draw more current than 6V6 tubes.
The bias points are marked on the board very plainly and also have the desired mA for each tube type. It couldn't be simpler.

Ok thanks. It should be about 30ma.

You cannot use 6L6's in the Rebel - the amp is not intended for it - nor will you be able to set the bias correctly. This is based upon responses from Egnater.

What a shame.
I have a blackheart RAT Modded and you can put a 6L6 or 6V6 with the EL84. There is more difference between a 6L6 and EL84 than 6V6/EL84.(more headroom, more fenderish clean) I hope that's not a marketing argument because Bruce has planned to release the Renegade version with 6L6/EL34. |

There are tons of amps that take 6L6 tubes, why don't you buy one of those?

I have a twin reverb 74 and a supersonic too. Why? Because i have bought a Rebel and i get more headroom with 6L6 inside. |

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, I'm just wondering why someone that is so concerned about clean headroom would buy a Rebel 20 in the first place.

I already have a Blackheart Rat Modded. It can take 6L6,6V6/EL84 and you can choose diode recifier or tube rectifier.
So now i can compare and if 6V6 is nice especially for crunchy tones, if you want really different cleans than EL84 you need a 6L6. The Blackheart has only one tube of each when the Rebel has two so i think the character will be more different but Bruce has set a 6V6. If you ask yourself why a guy that love clean headroom buy a Rebel (when he has already a twin  ) just ask yourself in this case why Bruce put a 6V6 in the Rebel, and a 6L6 in the next Renegade. I can tell more, the explanation is so simple to try to get the best of both world (in a small box). I like this little Baby and i will be in heaven if it can take the 6L6 too as my Blackheart. (just one point i have to check is clarity, it sounds nice but miss clarity compare to my Blackheart. The Blackheart has been heavily modified with new tonestack, new jacks and perhaps SN/AG solder too) |
