Wampler Hotwired

Hey folks say I just purchased a Hot Wired pedal does anyone know another good distortion / clean boost pedal that would stack with this pedal well or that would give me a different shade of distortions running it separately ? Thanks alot for the help, Bryan.

I've owned and used a Hot Wired for some time and there are three pedals that I think sound really good, stacked in front of it.

Silver Kiss
Timmy
Danelectro Transparent Overdrive.

Why? None of them have mid-humps or at the very least you can dial them out. The Hot Wired takes care of that part (quite well too, I should add) by itself.

Good luck with the search. It's a never ending saga, you know. Never ending. Still you flipped 5K worth of stomps, that shows some backbone. I have around 50 pedals that I should be offloading too. If I could just bring myself to do it...

Well, I've gotta say that I haven't tried it with one so I don't know for sure. Paul C might want to kick in here if he's got a sec. Or someone else who uses that setup.

The clip I shot (link below) was with a Bassman which is notorious for having a dip at around 400Hz. I'm guessing that the freq curve of your average DR or Twin would be flatter than the Bassman and they may have more headroom too. If my guesses are correct then I reckon the Timmy would sound pretty damn good with a DR; maybe better than my set-up.

Anyone else care to chip in here?

Hey thanks alot for the info, ah what about pairing it with another Wampler pedal ? Have ya tried any of the other ones out like the Pinnacle or Super Plextortion ? Id like to have a clean boost pedal, than the Hot wired pedal and than maybe something a little heavier for some lead solol work type stuff, i really like the sound of that Super Plextortion for some hotrodded tone......Bryan.

Sure. I have used the Pinnacle for a while. It does a killer brown sound. If you go to Brian's Pinnacle page you'll see me carrying on as usual in a clip there. I like the Pinnacle a lot. It does what it professes to do - brown. Putting anything in front of it would seem like overkill to me, so I haven't. Nor have I tried the Plextortion; but I will, some day (more money...cripes...)

I wouldn't say the Plextortion is the pedal you want for fast leads...It's great for chunky Plexi style rhythm playing, but it is kind of a one trick pony IMO. Brian's claims of the new pedal getting a Steve Vai tone are way off base. No demo video will really demonstrate the true sound of the pedal. I was quite shocked at how different the sound of the Plextortion was in real life as compared to the videos.

I love my Hot Wired, and use a few other pedals with it, Ulbrick 12axe, MJM Blues Devil, Tim/Timmy, occasionally the Pro Valve, they all sound good with the Hot Wired. I cant get enough of that Hot Wired tone, its just right for me.

respectfully, I'm scratching my head wondering how you say that - what amp are you playing through? I'm using a fender hot rod deluxe with a warehouse vet30 (vintage 30 clone). sound on the video is mixed between the room mic and a sm57.

I try to make the clips as accurate as I can - just wondering - what rig you are running it through?
Thanks,
Brian

Peavey Classic 30 with JJ power tubes. I know you are trying to make the videos as accurate as you can....What I said was in the complimentary vein. I'm saying the pedal sounds more like a real Plexi in person than it does in any demo I've seen or heard. That's a good thing!
