Tyler questions for those who know!

2009 is the year for my first Tyler, Ive been eyeing a Classic, but I hear they may have been discontinued in 2007, is the website up to date? I was thinking of the classic beacuse of the smaller headstock, can you get a smaller headstock as a custom option on say the SE Retro?

Call Tyler direct, there are more options than what are on the site.

That works, if not maybe email exactly what you want to a dealer or friend here in the states to see what's up.

All Classic models will be discontinued when the new website goes up. No one knows exactly when that will be. I'm not sure about the smaller headstock on a SE model. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Rob,

Hello mate, how are you ? Fancy seeing you in a thread like this !

I'll fess up Rob,

For a good few years there was a space in my guitar collection that was filled with either a 94 Pinkburst AL hardtail, a 95 Metallic purple Silo Spec trem, and then latterly a 2005 VSB AL with a trem, lovely guitars all of them.

Then, in summer 2006 we were up visiting the in laws in Glasgow and i wandered into GuitarGuitar for a look around.

I'd gone in to see the Fiesta Red 61 Strat that they were advertising for 35k to see if it was worth it.

Had a look, it wasn't, the salesman agreed but hen said:

"But this one IS worth £2300", and with that he handed me a Red Schmear Tyler Studio Elite Hollow HD.

Within the first 5 seconds of holding that neck that was me done, not just the best St**t type guitar I've ever played but quite possibly the best guitar full stop.

From that moment on all I could think about was getting one, but equally how I couldn't justify getting one or even afford one. Because if we're being honest an Axis and an Albert Lee are more than enough for a bedroom guitarist right ?

Then in July of last year in the For Sale section of Guitarist a sunburst one came up. I still couldn't afford it but it was a lot cheaper than a new one so i took the plunge, got a loan and got it.

So the Alberts's gone the and loan repayments are crippling me but I tell you Rob, it's worth every penny.

Anyway, on a more practical note GuitarGuitar is still listing a few Classics for sale.

I don't know how the roller coaster of world economy is working out for the Aussie dollar right now but if you're strong against the pound it might actually work out for you to buy one of these guitars from GuitarGuitar, particularly given that they appear to have discounted the Classics a bit.

If you need any help from someone on the same land mass as the guitars, give me a shout, it'd be my pleasure to help

Rob.... what will BP say...???

seriously you will discover a different world of tones and vibe from a Tyler...
I have a Luke and while its a fantastic guitar it will never compere to my Tyler..
I would say don't dismiss the SE range because of the bigger headstock.. these guitars are amazing...

can I ask what has led to you looking at a Tyler..?
trust me when I say if you get one it won't be the last...

heres mine..

I would e-mail Eliot at the shop and have him ask Jim for you.

While the Classic is a great guitar, the SE is the essence of what Jim does.

The SE HD can be configured like a Classic with simple electronis and a V/T/T configuration. With the killer fretwork and edging, it can sound and feel like an old Strat.

No matter which Tyler you end up with, it will change your perception of what is a great guitar.

Matt

Totally agree with you Matt.
"Any Tyler that you end up with will definitely change your perception of what is a great guitar".
Also thanks again Matt for the cool deal on the Edirol R-09!

Cant just play one brand forever! I'd like to experience a high end strat type axe at some stage, so Tyler it is for 2009! Is this the new site I stumbled on?

Rob.... I know you are a huge EBMM fan and thats cool.. they are amazing guitars... but the Tyler vibe is very different.. have you played one..?
the best way to think of Tylers is like an old pre CBS strat that has been worked on by someone who knows what they are doing...

hugely addictive...

I'm hoping I can get a Studio Elite HD with SSS, I love that bridge/middle tone!
