Gordon Lightfoot

The Springsteen vs Melancamp thread got me thinking about storytelling songwriters. Gordon Lightfoot has to be in the top percantile.

Yeah, I thought about Gordon, and Harry Chapin as well.

I think I wore out "Gord's Gold" at one point, I may have to buy another.

Yes, both amazing.

Gordon Lightfoot's song "If You Could Read My Mind" is so dark...it sucks me in every time. In fact, I'm going to listen to it right now...

Love Gordon! Being that I live here in Michigan, I get to hear the Edmund Fitzgerald often on the radio. Especially in November. Thats when it sank. The radio stations always pay tribute to the song in November.

The Traynor amp setup on the Sundown clip makes it perfect.

I saw him in St Paul in the late 70's (?). Enjoyed the first performance so much, I turned around and bought a ticket to the 2nd one. It was even better--umm, it appeared that perhaps they were having a drink or two between sets and the 2nd one just blew me away. Tho he's been ill, doesn't he still play out??
I'll add that it's alot of fun to play his songs, too!

My parents were from the U.P. and Dad was a Navy man so that song resonates with me too. Every October we go up to Michigan and celebrate their lives and that song is part of the celebration.

I'd add Jim Croce' (sp?) to the list of storytellers.

I like a lot of Gordon Lightfoot's tunes...but I can not hear the edmund fitz gerald song without cringing and turning it off...the radio wore it out

I've seen him the last 3 years here in Jersey.

He's lookin' a little gaunt, and gets winded easily, but he's still performing and that's cool.

His guitarist used a JC120 every time I've seen him.

I saw a TV special where Burton Cummings was doing a show and Lightfoot was in the audience. He did this hilarious spoof on Lightfoot and his songs and then brought Gordon up for a round of applause. Poor old Lightfoot looked like he was 90 years old.
