Zoom MRS-802 or Boss BR-1180?
Hi all,
I am just looking for a used, inexpensive way to record at home. I can afford about $150 for a little 8 track and these are two I see on ebay. Can anyone comment on these units and if one is superior than the other? A friend a few years back had the Zoom and I really liked what he was able to do but I have respect for Boss as well. Is one easier to use, can be upgraded, has better preamps, etc? Ease of use is important to me. Thanks. |

The Zoom is cool, but I think the Boss has better sounding pres and converters. I also think the Boss is a bit more intuitive to use.
PS: With ANY budget-minded recorder, adding a nice little tube mic pre (PreSonus, ART, etc.) really improves the quality of mic'd tracks and is more than worth the money.

I've got a MRS802 which is great for recording. Simple to use and good to have around. I finally went to a computer and Firewire interface.
if you're interested shoot me a PM, I'd be willing to let it go, just need a little time to empty the drive

What is wrong with the converters??? How do you know? Are they that much better in the Boss?
I am not worried about the pre-amp sounds because for most recording I'd rather use an external amp, etc. |
