Foxx Tone Machine Reissue

I loved my little Danelectro French Toast but would prefer a sturdier enclousre and true bypass. For this reason, I've been looking at used Foxx Tone Machine Reissues.

Does anyone know if the Reissue is true bypass?

How does the Reissue stack up tone wise to the original (or the French Toast for that matter)?

Any info appreciated
TG

I can't remember if the re-issue was true bypass or not, but its pretty close to being a perfect reproduction of the old boxes. The tones on it are excellent, a very powerful, in your face fuzz, and really strong octave(or octive, since we're talking fOXX, lol..).

One caveat you'll need to consider, though, is the actual enclosures are NOT that heavy duty at all. I don't have an original to compare that to(I have an old fOXX Fuzz Wah), but the case's metal is pretty thin and the pedal's extremely light as a result. The bottom cover if I remember is either a thin piece of tin, or may even be plastic(mine is loaned out right now).

I don't know how gig-worthy it is, you'd have to be careful with it. You could always put it in a looper, btu that defeats the puropse for you of getting one, I guess.

Seriously kick ass sounding pedal, though. Get a fOXX and rehouse that one instead of the Dan Electro!

If your looking for a great Foxx Tone Machine with True Bypass and well built, check out the Retroman Wolf Tone Machine.

Or consider getting a Prescription Electronics Experience.

Are the reissues not up to snuff?

I tried a reissue, but did not think that the build quality was worth the money.
In the end I went with a Retroman Wolf ToneMachine. Same great sound, but boutique quality and a few handy improvements (octave has its own footswitch for example).

They sounds great, but I'd be afraid of crushing it like a soda can when stomping on it.

Thanks Sickle, and sorry that I somehow missed your first post.

If the construction is questionable and they are not true bypass I may take a look at the retroman stuff.

Not really durable and pretty huge. Great tones, usable with octave on OR off. I think these are out of production so are probably commanding semi-collectors prices. I think it was one of the worst shielded pedals I'd ever used, IIRC. Radio reception galore.

You might want to check out the Fender Blender instead, more durable, cheaper, just as retro-cool.

I happen to think that the reissues are killer soungin pedals but they are not as sturdy as soem might like...if you want a built like a tank copy of a Fozz Tone Machine get a Fulltone Ultimate Octave...thats what I did! It also gives you a few more tonal options with the fat/bright switch and the octave up is footswitchable which is REALLY nice.

Is the Fulltone actually a Foxx copy or just an octave up pedal?

If you crush this RI enclosure you dont deserve to own pedals, seriously people that crush big muffs ?(ive seen a few) are total noobs, you're not meant to jump on them with your whole body weight. It doesnt take much weight to activate the switch at all.
BTW, the RI boxxes are fine IMO.

Mike makes two octa-fuzz pedals; Ultimate Octave & Octa Fuzz.. one's a Fox & the other's a Tychobrahe. Unfortunately, I can't remember which is which.

A pedal you might want to check into's the Prescription Electronics 'Face Lift'. An octa-fuzz with both germanium & silicon circuits.. kinda like having a Fox and an Octavia in one enclosure.

For some reason, Rx pedals don't get much love - I got mine used for next to nothin.

Another very cool octave fuzz is the Voodoo Lab 'Proctavia'. Again, this company's stuff isn't *booteek* enough for the true cork-sniffer, so they pop up cheap on the second hand market..
