MI Audio Tube Zone question

Hey all,

...Question on the MI Audio Tube Zone.

Is this a transparent overdrive, and is it better used w/ SC's or HB's?

The MI Audio site lists this pedal as " Having clipping stages to simulate tube amp- like responses."

Is this redundant if I'm already using a vintage style tube amp?
I just never really don't know much about it.

Thanks for your help,
Mooncusser

i will give my take of this pedal when i first learned about the mi tube zone and heard sound samples and read reviews i thought this has to be the perfect od

it seemed to be able to do everything anybody could ask a od to do

so i ordered one.. its made as good as any and it looks fine, and there are so many od tones it drove me nuts. after days of tweaking and learning how each knobs works with each other i never totally nailed what i wanted to get from it

the sounds are in there but it takes way to much work to get them i would never be able to use it for a live gig i wanted to like it so bad

i ended up returning it and never looked back

i will not get into transparency, when it comes to overdrives thats a long story

marc

It is a tweekers pedal fo sho. I did find a use for mine as a low/mid OD. Has a very 6L6ish quality to it in this role. I wasn't a fan of the high gain Mesa-ish tones but they are there. I'll admit it doesn't have the most intuitive eq.

You gotta buy one and try it. That why the Emporium is there. People try, and then sell pedals all the time.

Tube Zone is great, versatile drive pedal.
It can do nice low, mid and high-gain tones, but it has to be tweaked
to get the best out of it (it has 6 knobs + internal trimmer!).
I don't think I will ever sell mine, although at the time being it's not on my board.

It's a great pedal. I set the internal trimmer all the way up after not being real impressed with the pedal. Bingo! That did it. It can do transparent lean boost and high gain and a lot of the in between. After a very short time of fiddling with the knobs I found it very easy to dial in.

Can this pedal do old-school metal, into a clean amp?

Its a great pedal but it is definitely a tweeker. Didnt find much use for it in low gain modes because I use active pups and it sounded harsh. It does high gain very well and its very tubby and amp like sounding. Not that great for palm mutes because the low end is kinda flabby. I used to run it at 18 volts and this pedal was loud. I broke the volume shaft on it so its just sitting on the corner doing nothing. Dont miss it much though. Im gonna try and fix it myself when I get a chance.
