How are Warmoth compound radius necks?
I was thinking of building a partscaster and came across the Warmoth necks. I've never heard of this before. Can you tell me about them. I assume they work but is there a difference in feel or an advantage of any kind? BTW, are there any other manufacturers that do this?

Coming from a PRS with its relatively flat board, you may find a compound (really a "conical" ) radius neck will preserve some of that flatness around the 12th fret where you're more likely to need it, whilst giving you a small taste of some of the vintage radius comfort in the cowboy chord area.
I say a small taste because the Warmoth VM necks (forget the Pro necks) go from 10 inch to 16, and ten is still pretty flat. Maybe a cooler transition into Fender style would be a 7.25-9.00 conical or compound radius from Tommy and 'em at USA Custom Guitar. They've got a bewildering variety of neck radius choices, plus you pick your own trussrod details. They're approximately the same price; I own a passel of both and while the Warmoth is very good, the USACG is better, sometimes much nicer. Brett Faust does some wonderful frets. |
