Another closet classic, this one from my Grandpa
I acquired this jewel a few years back from my grandfather. I still have the original tweed case but bought this one for better protection. Legend has it that my grandmother bought this for my grandfather in a pawn shop in chicago in 1955. My research tells me its a 1954 but I'm not sure. To my knowledge its all original, with the exception of the pickguard. The original fell apart many years ago so I ordered a blank from Gretsch and cut it myself to pics that I had of the original. Also the top strap button looks a little suspicious. Could any of you gearheads tell me a little more about it? Obviously this thing is priceless and I'll never let her go, but it would be fun to put a value on it. Thanks for all of your help.

Enjoy

In quick reply (or elswhere) click the "insert image" button and paste the link that is hilighted http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/u...Grestch001.jpg. Don't add all that other stuff before and after it and it will look like this

Pretty cool. It's probably not worth a fortune since it's not one of the more popular models. Go to your local Barnes & Noble and look at a Vintage Guitar Price Guide while you have a cup of coffee. That should give you a value for it. Also, Google Gretsch SNs and you can find a dating guide online.

I fixed your pictures OP.
BTW, would you like me to move this thread to the Guitars in General forum? You might get more traffic that way |

Roughly $1300 - $1500. Possibly a bit more with the copper finish and excellent condition... But in today's economy, there ain't no telling.

Do you think its the copper finish or Jaguar tan? I really have no clue. I've taken it to the vintage guitar show in Arlington TX and got 25 theories from 25 dealers.
