I know my greenbacks are a good bit quieter than my vintage 30s. Was wondering what the loudest loudspeaker you guys know of is.

Narrow gap JBL D130. They don't make 'em any more.

Celestion Century is showing 102db, H/V30's 100db, GB's 98db. Don't know about JBL and EV.

They're not in production anymore but used and reconable examples are somewhat easy to find.

JBL E120...103dB sensitivity....300 watts.... 4" voice coil

EVM 12L comes in second at 100dB..2 1/2" voice coil

EV reissued the 12L in two versions....Classic(200watts) and Black Label(300watts)....Looks to me the Black Label is the old EVM12L Pro Line... with teflon coating on the pole piece and voice coil.

CRex seems rather loud to me, as does the Red Fang. And the Big Ben.

Sticking with 12-inch speakers, the Electro-Voice EVM-12L was the firstest with the loudest.

Other modern speakers that give it a run for the money include the Celestion Century and a bunch of the new Eminence Patriots--The Swamp Thang, Cannabis Rex, Governor, and Tonker are all in the 102dB range. I believe they rate the Red Fang and Wizard at 103dB.

Loud in what way? Most efficient or max SPL?

"loudness" would mean efficiency. Not sure if thats what the original poster meant - but thats what he "said" if you catch my drift.

Thats why the wattage ratings have nothing to do with this discussion.

Can't wait to get mine into a cabinet. Henry Kaiser sent one to me a while back.

EV's info on the Telex website says the alnico EV SRO 12" was 103dB, and it's older than the 12L. My SRO is noticeably louder than my 12L given the same input power.

I haven't ever seen a guitar speaker rated at more than 103dB. Has anyone?
