Reissue '57 Strats

http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-FEN-100102-LIST

Has anyone bought one lately or have one from the last few years?

I am not much of a Fender guy AT ALL. But for some reason these have piqued my interest lately. Specifically, I wouldlike to know what the pups are like. If this is another strat that needs to be shipped with replacement pickups like all the others I have owned, my interest is lost!!!

thanx,
b

after market pickups in general are much better than stock. i have heard and played a 57 re-issue and the pup are ok. but when changed to franlin vh's the difference was amazing. much more chime. much more clearity. and alot more of everything

the only two strats pups i have heard and liked are the custom classic stock pups and they are not available for sale (must buy the guitar) and the custom texas specials (they are available for sale)

still all in all .. fralin or lollar or any of the other pickup winders are a improvement over stock

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. I just don;t get the whole Fender pickup choice for their guitars. It's not so much buying aftermarket pups. Hell, I have done it plenty of times. It's more the principle of spending 1500 bux on a guitar and getting sub par pups in it ya know? Sorry to whine but it's ridiculous!!!!

Stop whining.

Even if it came with good pups, you would still want to change them eventually, that is the nature of the beast.

I thought I was happy with my strat pups, Lollar Blackfaces.....but I am now in the mood to try the Dimarzio areas. 2 years later, I am unhappy again.

BTW, if you like that guitar grab a used EJ in that color. You will be glad you did. PUPs in the EJ are very, very nice.

Thanks guys. I have a funny relationship with Strats. i love the way they look and play but the pups have always been a thorn in my side.

J' - the EJ strat looks sweet. I have never played one though. I am taking a trip to some shops later this week and I will have to hunt one down and see what it's like - thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks all,
Bill

I have had three Fender 57 reissue strats, two in the 80's and one now. I disagree about the pickups having to be replaced. They don't have to, if you are looking for a VINTAGE sound. Which is why they sound like they do.

If you want a modern sound then that is different, these pickups are more old school sounding. And as far as the EJ, I passed on it because i like the smaller frets that come with the 57 strat. The EJ's have medium jumbo, which I simply do not like.

I would say play both and then decide which one is right for you.

I believe the '57 RI and '62 RI have the SAME pickups in them.

The pickups in the 57 RI are the 57/62's. Go ahead pair them up with some pure nickel 10s and they sound very vintage and nice. Lotsa sparkle and spank with fairly woody neck tones, especially great for clean to mildly overdriven. Fender does indeed make some decent pickups.

I had a red '57 RI a couple of years back, the neck on that gtr was simply the best i've ever played but the pickups sounded very very very thin.
I'm into telecasters for the moment so I sold it.
I wonder if they still put those icy-sounding pups in them...?

Yes sir indeed. These are actually some of my favorite Fender pickups. Next would have to be the EJ's or CS69's.
