gibson es 335 hollowbody?
so after some thinking that for my next guitar i want a gibson es 335 type guitar. however, i realized that price tag is probably offf my list until im around 40 which around 20 years from now. so ive been looking at some alternates.
ive looked at couple epiphones when i came across some japanese copies. so are these any good? like the greco and burny? or other companies that you could suggest? |

Every once in a while you can find a really good deal on a Heritage 535. Every bit as good as a Gibson.

gibson es 335 hollowbody?
First of all, you do realize that a 335 isn't really a hollow-body, right?

There are a gazillion 335 style guitars at all price points. So first you need to decide what you can spend. Some of the Grecos and Burnys are really nice guitars, but older ones may need work so you really need to know what you're doing if you can't buy them in person.
For under a grand (dealers will want more), I'd look for any of these: Epiphone Elitist Ibanez AS50 Maybe a Heritage 535 (most are over a grand) Guild Starfire V (again, usually a little over a grand) For less than $500: Epi Sheraton II Hamer Echotone

I got my gibson es-347 for about a grand a month or so ago. Used market is great right now if you're patient. No need to wait 20 years either....

Edwards, Tokai, etc...
And yes, check out the market closely as you'll be surprised what you might be able to find out there as people are selling off their worldly goods to keep their head's above water (I'm sorry to say). Good luck!

+1 on the Elitist stuff.
Yeah, you can totally find Starfires for a little over a grand. I got a late 70's one for $1100 last year. Also, check out Reverend. Some of their semi-Hollows are kinda in the vein of a 335. |

On a really tight budget, the Ibanez AS-73 guitars are a lot nicer than they should be.

If you want a hollowbody w/P90's (and can't afford the ES-330), pick up an Epiphone Casino - if you want a semi-hollowbody w/humbuckers (like the 335), maybe look into the Edwards E-SA-125LTS:

I would suggest keeping your eyes open for a used 333 also. I picked this one up before Christmas below your budget.
