Big Head Todd - Todd Park Mohr gear

I saw BHTM play at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg last night, I was only about 15 feet from the stage, but the stage is very high in this venue. I couldn't see what Todd used for pedals other than some sort of Roland foot controller with two expression pedals on it. He also appeared to have no backline amp either (that was visable behind/near him), I think he hides it to the side behind the PA speakers.

Does anyone know what he uses? I've done the google seach without any luck. His primary guitar appeared to be a strat with a custom neck... anyone know what it is as well?

Last I heard he was playing through a lap top.

When I saw him several years ago he was using a channel switching Marshall of some sort through a 4X12. Great tone at that show!

He posted on his site's blog what he used. As I recall, he uses Benedict Guitars, Carr Slant 6V amps, T-rex Dr Swamp OD/Distortion, T-rex Delay. May be one other pedal in there too. He's also been known to use a Vox Tonelab or PC into a PA but I think he's recently gone back to actual amps.

Also, check out Big Head Todd's website for a preview of his new 2008 Red Rocks DVD. There is a video preview of him performing "Boom Boom" and his equipment is easily seen.

For quite awhile he was using a laptop running Amp Farm. Not sure what the current rig is.

The last couple of tours that I've seen, he was running a Tweed Covered amp facing him like a monitor. Smelled like a Fender.
My hero as far as guitarists go...

It was a great show... The Benedict guitar with the P90's sounded awesome. He's a good player with some good tones. He kicked ass on a blues number using a Les Paul too... the tone on that sounded like a tweed amp of some sort, not a PC/notebook.

I went through some pics on their website and saw he tends to use a single amp, usually Fenders, facing him like a monitor. I saw a 1x12 Blonde of some sort, a HR Series (most likely a Deluxe) and a BF 1x12 combo.

When I saw them last month, he had no amp at all in front of him, so that night I'm guessing he was playing through a notebook.

I think one of the Big Head Todd guys posts on here pretty often. Maybe he'll chime in for you.

Another update... I just saw a clip from last year's DVD at Red Rocks. He's got two Marshalls and a small 1x12" combo that I don't recognize. BUT, neither of the Marshalls are mic'd or appear to be plugged in! I also watched a video of them making "All the Love You Need" and he used a Matchless during rehearsals.

Judging from all this it appears he likes to play through all sorts of amps and suffers from the same thing as many of us... that is the endless pursuit of the perfect tone.

I did find out he's using a Maven Peal pedal called "the Howler"... anyone ever used one???

I will be at their show this year at Red Rocks on June 6th... I'm do my best to get a pic of his gear and see if I can get a shot of his pedals.

On the live at the filmore DVD from a few years back he talks about several of his guitars and show them backstage.
I think the laptop thing was only done on one tour. Everytime I have seen him live he has used an amp with the exception of (I think) the late show with Craig Kilborn where I think he was using the laptop setup.
He is a very tasty guy. When I listen to Sister Sweetly, I always enjoy the different tones he uses for different songs.

On the Filmore DVD he's using a Tonelab desktop and the older Gibson amp that had a 12" and 10" speaker. Guitar wise he uses everything. 335, strats, LP's, and some custom made guitars as well. When I saw him last year it was a 1x12 Fender amp with some pedals. Great player with a good variety of music.

Here's a recent update from one of the guys in their crew... straight from their blog section on their site:

When we are on the road, Todd is currently using a Mesa Boogie Lone Star Amp, with a pedal board that includes a Mesa Lonestar channel switcher, a T Rex Replica Echo/Tap Tempo pedal, a TC Electronics Vintage Overcrive pedal, a Roger Mayer Vision Wah pedal, along with a Voodoo lab Pedal power 2 Plus power supply and a Peterson Strobo Stomp 2 Tuner.
Keep in mind, he changes amps and pedals very often!!!
However, the Seattle show was a fly date for us, so we brought an FX rack and our Mesa boogie head and went direct with his signal. No speakers. It looks like he might be using this FX unit for the immediate future. Can't remember the name of it and it's packed away....

And another area talks about the FX unit, quoting Jeremy from the band:

It's called a Fractal Systems AxeFX ultra. I don't know why I know that.
