Or remove all mids from the tone.

Well some amps will and some amps wont. Of the amps that wont get there by turning the mids down some can get there if it has an FX loop to put an EQ in. Bob

I think the term came about because the first guys with that tone had Mesa-Boogie amps with the graphic eq, and put the sliders into a distinct V shape. Chicken and egg perhaps.
Anyway, I would guess that you can't really scoop a twin reverb without an external pedal.
