PP2 hates my WOF wah! help

Anyone notice a HUGE noise as your wah gets close to your Voodoo Lab PP2? I wanted to move my wah closer to the center so I could but my Vibe first, but the noise is so bad I cant do it. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do?

It is a Teese wheels of fire so it isnt a crappy wah. The interference didnt completely go away until the WOF was off the board.

Wahs are notoriously sensitive to EMF (electromagnetic field) interference. Basically, the inductor turns into an antenna... Some cover their inductors in mu-metal, which helps. Are you also powering the wah from the PP2+? Sometimes, running the wah on battery power can help make it quieter. Also, can you move the power supply a bit?

I always just use battery for my wahs because of the noise. They last so long that it's not really a big deal anyway.

That happens with most every wah, and is not uncommon at all. I had an RMC3 that was super sensitive to wall warts being near it. Even my Morley BH2 needs my PP2+ at least 5" away to make the hum go away completely.

Ohhh, I should play around with the distance thing. I just tried plugging it in once and heard way too much noise so I just never did it again.

Cool! Hopefully you'll find that the distance that it has to be away from the power supply isn't that far. Don't for get to do your testing with some gain on so the noise issue is amplified like it will be in 'real life', 'at volume'.

eh,

just use longer cable runs and place it whereever. my pedals are physically placed in the order of convenience, not necessarily, in signal flow order.

I was thinking of that too, but the next pedal I am getting is a Fulltone MDV 2 and it looks like a wah and I may not be able to set it up so I can plug my cord into it if it is blocked by the wah.

I need to go to the hardware store and get smaller screws so I can put the wah down and the Vibe up so I can try that.

If your pp2 isn't mounted underneath your board you can put it on top of a block of wood ala EJ's tube driver to avoid the emf.

It is because the board is a pedal train. I am going to the hardware store tomorrow to get smaller screws to hold the bottom of the wah on so they dont stick out and I can mount the wah as far down as possible and mount the vibe up high. The vibe appears to have inputs rather high up the pedal near the pot which is unlike a wah which is usually in the middle which should help a lot. I can wire the cables under the bars of the pedal train.

I found that Vibe into Wah is far more useful than wah into vibe.

I have a pp2 with RMC wah and have no noise. Are you saying that the pedal train board causes some kind of grounding problem?

No, he's trying to get the wah away from the PP2.
If you put your RMC on top of your PP2 (or a wall wart), you'd get a hum / buzz noise as well. You probably have them several inches apart though and perhaps have not encountered that phenomenon.
