Soldano SLO Speaker/Cab Preference
Hey guys and girls!!!
I have a 2008 SLO. When I first took delivery of it, I was using a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion 12/75s. After a few months, I bought a Two Rock 1x12 with a 12/65 Eminence Two Rock design speaker. It was at that point that I realized the Marshall was doing nothing for the SLO. It sounded sooooo much better with the Two Rock cab. I sold the TR after awhile to help pay some bills and went back to the Marshall until my buddy let me borrow his homemade 2x12 with EVM12Ls. That was it. I soon got my hands on a Mystik Cabs 1x12 with an EVM12L and haven't looked back since. I absolutely adore this little cab. Don't let the cab's size fool you though. This thing carries an insane amount of bottom given it's "dumblesque" type design and it is loud, loud, loud!!!! Mystik Cabs rock - plain and simple. So...I'm wondering, what do all you SLO owners use for speakers and cabs? I am due to take delivery of a very special Two Rock that a very good friend of mine has agreed to let me buy from him. This amplifier is an amazing piece and sounds killer through the Mystik EVM12L loaded cab as well. In fact, it is from my buddy that the cab originally came. Along with the amp, I got the speaker cab. He is getting a guitar of mine and some $$ to make the deal square. I have just had to take a little extra time to come up with the additional cash. I'm there now and hope to get the amp very soon. My buddy offered the amp to me awhile ago but I felt funny about taking it since I still owed $$ for it. I'm weird that way. I plan to use te Mystik cab with the Two Rock as well. I just have to figure out a way to hook both heads up to the cab. Either that or I am going to buy an additional cab for the SLO. I am hoping to get some ideas from you all. I like the idea of the 1x12 cause I have a really bad back. Let hear your choices, please!!!! thanks, Bill

Right now I've a new found love for my Slo. I've been using a Soldano V30 quad for around 20 years and always disliked that upper mid spike. Lately I've been using an EVH 5150III custom Greenback quad which is much smoother and lower mid focused, early breakup also which is nice with the Slos' clear articulation.
Edit; Here's a clip I did today with the greenbacks! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=7404333 Last edited by suparsonic; 03-08-2009 at 12:10 AM. |

This is what people need to compare a SLO. In a mix it jumps out at you and cuts through. It's kinda funny... In that other SLO thread, you posted how it was in the corner gathering dust and something about smoother tones and ear fatigue... Nice to hear it's getting some love again....

I tried a few, and though my SLO100 sounded great with them all pretty much, I ended up liking it best in Marshall 4 x 12" I have. I'm sorry, I forget model numbers of speaker cabs but I think it is 8412, or something like that.
I did buy a Marshall 1960B (I think it is) with 4 10"'s and expected to love that, but actually I missed the thump and depth. I also have a 2 x 12" THD cab that sounds great, a 1922 Marshall that sounds good, 1936 Marshall bottom that also sounds good...but still best is the 4 x 12. I have a really hard time keeping track of the cabinets, as I also trade out speakers a bit...one day I have to open them all up and record what is where...

V30s = more modern sound
G12-25M Greenbacks = more vintage sound Both will sound great.

I don't own an SLO, but heard one through a Scumback loaded 4x12 that sounded amazing. It was the M75 speakers that were in it.

i'm using a hard truckers jg-1 1x12 with tone tubby alinco and i usually swapp it out for tone tubby ceramic from time to time. i also use a mesa vertical open back 2x12 when need be with the tone tubbys. i would love to get a hard truckers 2x12, their 1x12 is outstanding, all my amps sound bad ass through it.

I thought my SLO sounded best with an all birch, rear-loaded 4x12 full of G12M greenbacks

I use a Soldano 2x12 cab with their stock speakers and I couldn't be happier.In my opinion the cab is not too big or too heavy.
