Is there a 3 channel 4 el84 amp out there??

I am looking for 1, clean channel, 1 drive channel and at the very least a solo boost, without having to put a pedal or anything else in the loop.

oh and under 1k

Hoffmann built a three channel EL84 based amp. Don't know if they are still making it. www.hoffmannamps.com

The boost isn't footswitchable, and it hypes the mid-range on an already mid-heavy amp.

I'd recommend the C 30 with a dirt box as well. 3 channel amps are generally fairly expensive.

Matchless Independence. Not under 1K.

edit: nevermind. It's EL34.

Mesa Nomad 45... Clean, Crunch, and Lead. All three channels can be boosted (footswitchable) and independent control of boost level. Best sounding of the Nomad Series IMO. Also has footswitchable reverb with level control for each channel.

Should be well under a grand if you can find one. They sound pretty good...much better than the Nomad, IMHO.

Hughes & Kettner Statesman Quad EL84 1x12 combo. 2 channels:
  1. Clean - has a "twang" button to give you a bit more snap (daft name, but it works ... in a fairly subtle way)
  2. Overdrive - has a footswitchable boost that boosts gain and a little extra volume (no level control though)
Might be a little bit more than US$1,000 new, but probably not that much more.

I suspect that's not close enough to what you're really looking for, but I can't think of anything else in that price range ... in fact I'm struggling to think of any current production 3 channel EL84 amps.

+1 Any 2 channel EL84 based amp with an EQ in the loop is like a "virtual" 3 channel amp. Theres a lot of choices under a grand used with 6L6 based amps though. Bob

Agree... the Nomad 45 was the best of the Nomad bunch, but none of them was very hard to top...

Nice clean sound too. Drive channel is a bit odd though.

There's any number of 3 channel 6L6 or El34 amps for that price. Buy a quad of Yellowjackets and you're golden (or use an amp with a 1/2 power switch, 2 El84s on the low power setting and 2 EL84s/2 El34s on high power. I did that with a Marshall 6100 combo I got for $800 and it sounded killer!
