Jake E. Lee Appreciation thread

Rhoads fans are gonna flame me for this but Jake is definitely my all time fave Ozzy guitarist. Had just as much chops as Randy and for my tastes better tone too. Zakk Wylde is great, even with his annoying hybrid zztop/devils angels look but Jake was just a much tastier and exciting player. Too bad he fell off the face of the earth

Jake is my favorite as well. His stage prescense & rhythm work is among the best of any of the guitarists from the era. I like Bark at the Moon and Ultimate Sin most in Ozzy's catalouge. I've actually been listening to the Ultimate Sin everyday for the past 4 or 5 days.
I hate that I wasn't able to see either of those tours with Jake.
Jake's "echo" trick around 1:50 of this clip is pretty unique & cool.

I used to be a doubting Thomas whenever I heard people say Jake was Ozzy's best guitarist. I mean, sure, he was great, but better than Randy? Then I saw a live DVD from the Ultimate Sin tour and I was convinced. Dude tore that shit up with amazing tone and sense of melody. And great stagecraft on top of that. The live solo he played ranks up there with "Quarter to Midnight" as my favorite live unaccompanied solos.

And I love the stuff he did with Badlands. Too bad they came late to the party in the 80's because they could've been huge.

Totally agree!!!!! That band was great, and the tune "Runaway Train" still makes me drool over Jake's playing.

No flame. Randy's my all-time favorite guitarist. His music inspired me to play. 30 years later, I still listen to the early Ozzy stuff.

That said, I dig Jake big time. He was so different from Randy. Bark at the Moon is a great guitar album. And, "Waiting for Darkness" is one of Ozzy's coolest tunes. It's in my truck's cd player right now!!:RoCkIn

Love Jake, great tone, pick attack, chops, song writing, the list goes on, and as said earlier the Badlands stuff is really great raw rock (with great vocals to boot). - Jim

Big Jake E Lee fan here. I still listen to "HI WIYAH" all the time. I didn't get into him really until Badlands. My 14 yo daughter loves that tune as well.

Love Jake!

I saw the Ultimate Sin Tour. If I remember correctly, Metallica (with Cliff) was the opener.

Amazing player. Continues to boggle my mind that he never used a trem. He wrote some of my favorite riffs, especially with Badlands.

I rate Jake much higher than Rhoads and most of the Dio axe slingers.

Taste is what he has. Very articulate to-the-point playing. Great personality apparently and not stupid as evident by him getting out of the music business
