Tex-Mex(road worn) vs EJ pickups vs Original '57/'62

Anybody had the chance to compare all of them. In my opinion all of them sound good, the only problem is with the Original '57/'62 because only 2 out of 10 seem to sound right, with the EJ and Tex-Mex I had the impression that 10 out of 10 sounded right. Share your opinions please!

In my 40 year experience with Strats I've learned that there are dogs & gems at all price points and models. So, IMO, running the racks and kicking the tires is the best thing to do...especially when it comes to Strats. However, as we all know, tone & feel are VERY subjective....one man's dog could be another man's gem and vice-versa.

Having said that, the overall best Strat I've played in a very long time is the '62 Vintage Hot Rod...but it did need a Mare pickup swap to bring out its best. I loved the feel of the RW Strats I've played but the necks are just too slim for my large paws. I like the tone of the EJ but couldn't get on with its 12" fretboard radius. Practically every regular '62 RI Strat I played was plinky sounding. I also really like the Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Sig Strat (best bang for the buck IMO) but I prefer the feel of a rosewood fingerboard.

So, again, it comes down to personal taste, running the racks, and kicking a lot of tires .

Tex-mex pups are a sort of unrefined, rough and ready sound that would be hard to get too fixated on exactly how they sound. And so they're either all fine, or none will ever be be good enough.

As for the other 2, it is more of matching the right pickup to the right guitar.
