Small, easy to use, cheap lighting system?

My group needs something for a lighting system. We aren't looking for anything fancy...just "good enough". Something better than just clipping a few light bulbs around our gear.

Any suggestions? It has to be passable for a decent club.

Check out these LED PARs at $119 each.

http://www.stageoutlet.com/led/led-pars/10210.html

You can run them without a controller and slave them to a master light. They have built in mics so you can run them with sound too. We bought 8 and a controller and it makes a sweet light show...but you could start with a couple and just add more as you get more funding. Plus, they draw almost nothing so you can use a buttload of them on a 20 amp circuit!

Do you use them like the YouTube demo from the site, or do you hang them? I suppose you could aim them up at the band too.

Thanks!

We have them mounted to two stands, but they work well on the floor too. The double yoke works great as a stand. The nice thing is that you can buy what you can afford and just keep adding more and daisy chaining them as you get more funding...and DMX cables are pretty cheap...plus no dimmer packs needed!

I thought they looked awesome on the floor in the demo. I gotta talk the other guys into it. Lights aren't as much as I thought. Thanks!

They come in boxes of four, so if you can afford to start there, it's easier for them on their end.

They're pretty bright too...about the same as a regular 300w 56. Plus they're compatible with the American DJ controllers. We bought an ADJ foot controller for about $100.

...and you're welcome!

Chauvet (sp?) Rock n' Light system is super simple, has everything you need in one box, can be linked with add on pieces later if you so desire... very easy to transport and only takes a couple minutes to set up... I love mine

I'm kind of in charge of my bands lighting, mostly because no one else really cares to put out the effort. I have 16 par 38 lamps and a crappy controller/relay pack but I want to get 2 DMX dimmers and a DMX controller. I just don't know what kind of controller to get without spending a fortune (as I'm the only one doing it) and without creating a serious learning curve for myself. Anyone have any ideas?

I've been told to try the MBT stuff from a couple different retailers here in Indy but it's hard to decide when you can't try something out.

Sorry to jack your thread. I've always wanted to ask about lighting but there is nothing here at TGP for lighting!

Check out the lighting forum at HC...they have a resident expert there that's a bit of a jerk, but seems to know his stuff. If you post there, most likely he'll answer. Some good info to be had, if you don't mind a few smart ass remarks.
