XOTIC BB, AC and RC?

Hey all,

Looking for something to smooth out and add a mid hump to leads while playing through an Egnater Mod 50 at high volumes/gain about 1:00. I was using a volume boost in the loop, but looking something to also add some compression/mids.

I know I could use a tube screamer type pedal or the Sparkle Drive comes to mind as recommended.

Since I already like the BB Preamp on top of my Fender tones I was wondering any of the other Xotic pedals offer more mids on tap like the AC or RC? The BB Plus looks nice with the mids on the one channel but the other channel lacks the bass control like the first BB Preamp so I am not sure I could use this pedal to give me the leads I want plus the crunch on my Fenders.

Any thoughts on this?

Sparkle Drive?

Rich

I'd say the AC would be your best bet of the three, it's got more mids to it, though it's diferent than a TS style pedal. I'd also think about the demeter fat control, very cool pedal and does what you're after.

I had an AC, and it does give a smooth lead tone with extra mids.

I have the AC plus. You can get some very smooth, singing OD with/without compression, boost on/off and switch the order of AB or BA.
Great pedal.

Thanks guys,

How come Xotic does not mention more mids with their AC pedal? I guess I could have the BB and AC on my board. OR, I could try the BB Plus. It appears channel A is like my BB Preamp but instead of a treble/bass controls, it has one tone control which I am assuming can dial in as much bass as the stock original BB. Anyone know this?

I could try the Sparkle Drive as well since I hear that works well.

Using the BB + might save me on pedalboard real estate, plus it has a mid control on channel B.

Ugh, decisions.maybe I'll ask the guys on the Egnater forum.

What is that Demeter Fat Boost - is it that good? Looks interesting. I just know the Xotic stuff works so well with the Egnater amps, they are like a third channel.

Does anyone feel hitting a high gain amp while at high volumes is overkill?

IMO, the BB+ will not get you your BB sounds, it's a different animal. The AC+ is quite nice, I've got one for sale in the emporium if you'd like to try it. The BB+ is much more aggressive in the mids, and not as much low end on tap.

Might be worth waiting and looking at the signature Andy Timmons BB which is out in a few months

You might want to try out the Silver Kiss. You can control your mids with it. Great sounding OD.

Silver Kiss? Remember I just want a touch of gain and mids...so will this do it? Any thoughts on how it sounds over a saturated amp? I was also told the Boosta Grande is good.

I'ld trust Kurt1981 on that. He's been around the block a time or two...or, three, or four!

Like a Pedal Cassanova, I say.

I was using two BB's for quite awhile. I've trimmed-it down to one, but like to pair it with the RC and/or TIMMY.

I'm curious about this too. After the Scott Henderson signature RC boost was released, all new RC boosters are now built to that spec.

i have a clip of the ac+ with a fender scxd on my youtube channel, and i also did a demo of my eggie TOL 100 rig called "amptones 09" using the bb preamp on the clean as well as dirty channels.

i love the bb with my eggie. perfect match.

Thanks guys, I am confused now. So many choices. Maybe I should try to get away with no pedal in front of the amp. I heard the RC has more mids than the BB so it was a choice as well. I'll check that clip.
