External Firewire 800 for storing/editing audio/video?

Anyone have any good advice about what external store solution to use for recording (including HD video)?

I was thinking maybe this? http://store.micronet.com/DDQ-1000.aspx - Dual drive RAID.

I use a MacBook Pro for editing. I have a 1TB USB hard drive for storing stuff but it's filling up and it is not fast enough with USB to edit - I think I need Firewire 800.

Any suggestions welcome.

If you get an eSATA card for the MacBook Pro, that would be your fastest option. Using RAID to mirror the two drives will also cause a performance hit.

Is eSATA faster than Firewire 800 for editing audio and video?

eSATA is kick ass.

As far as firewire goes, I use a Maxtor One Touch and it works pretty well:

FW800 is pretty robust for audio and video. I've done a full 90 minute SD doc and smaller HD projects in FCP with a gang of FW800 drives.

It's easy to find drives with eSATA FW800, FW400 and USB all on one drive.

So you can decide how you want to configure your drive/s.

For example OWC sells an eSATA express card for less then $20.00.

Their drives are good also.

And some related info if interested.

Yeah good points. I'll get a drive that does both Firewire and eSATA, then I should be good. I can always get a eSATA card for my MacBookPro if I need to do it that way.

Thanks guys.
