Intonation question
Have you ever had a Gibson style bridge where the saddle won’t move as far as you need it to? It is only happening on one string. What else can I do?
Thanks in advance.

Do you mean move forwards to the neck, or backwards to the tail? What method did you use to check the intonation? I would recheck the intonation to start with or use another method to see if you get the same result.
Is the bridge mounted staggered, with some offset, like a Les Paul? The height of the nut, the gauge of the strings, the neck itself (straight or not) and the action also influence the intonation, so check that as well. If the intonation is slightly off on just one string, but your chords sound OK, I wouldn’t worry too much about it, except if it’s a very expensive guitar, in that case I would send it back to have it checked. |

Sorry probably not clear..Yes the saddle seems like it needs to go back farther. Never had that happen to this extreme.
It's a SG Standard. Did it with a tuner...I should try another tuner also.. I had heavier strings on the guitar and tuned lower. Lighter strings and tuned standard. It's only the 'A' that seems out. 12 fret harmonic is off. enough to clearly hear it by ear. I may just grab a different 'A' string and try that...These were a free pack by a dealer that I was trying out to give an opinion. So far I have one...lol Thanks.

Try a lighter gauge string. I play heavy strings, and need to adjust my saddles back farther than normal strings, especially the wound strings.
Its interesting you are having this trouble only with the A, and not also the low E. |
