good pedal for Four Horsemen tones? (no, not Metallica)

I've been pulling out alot of my straight ahead rock albums from the late 80's & early 90's (Junkyard, Four Horsemen), and wondering what pedal would work best with my setup to get me some Four Horsemen tones (Rockin' is Ma Business, Tired Wings, Wanted Man).

I already have a tweed Bassman, and 2 Esquires (one w/ a humbucker in the bridge), so I should be pretty close, just need the right dirt pedal.

So what pedal will get me those rippin' tones? Other similar bands (for those of you unfamiliar w/ Four Horsemen): Georgia Satellites, Dan Baird, Junkyard, Black Crowes, etc.

Here are my candidates:

Nick Greer Sucker Punch
Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret
Keeley Java Boost
Analogman Beano Boost

Other choices?

Something like the OCD, Box of Rock or DLS that do the Plexi "AC/DC" sounds would get you there.
I heard Rockin is my Buisiness on satellite the other day. Forgot that band.

The Four Horsemen were BAD ASS!!! Frank Starr had the whole lead singer rock star thing down to a T!

...and DAVE LIZMI was a smokin' rock guitar player. Wonder what happened to him?

For the sound I'd say a 50-100 watt Marshall cranked up! oh yeah and a Les Paul!

Yay! Dave Lizmi from The Four Horsemen! Loved that band, bought a DVD from you a few years back I believe.

Now anyone else giving advice on how to cop YOUR sound on this forum would be sorta funny since you are here(!?)

My guess a 4x12 cabinet is a must, so is a Marshall without too many bells & whistles;

and VOLUME, am I right? Can you tell us if any pedals were involved at all on that album produced by Rick Rubin almost 20 years ago?

Dave-
Good to see you here! I tell ya, "Nobody Said It Was Easy" is one of the best bar room rock albums, period. Just gritty, and rocking and dirty and heartfelt. And ATTITUDE. Just wanted to say thanks for making such a timeless rock album.

I bought their second album and it pretty much sucked. The first is a bonafide classic.

Unadan: thanks for your blunt honesty Sorry you didn't dig the 2nd album. Glad you dug the 1st!

Spooky: Thanks man =) As for what gear I used, Rikvee pretty much nailed it. My Off-the-shelf 1989 Les Paul standard (with Duncan PUPs ) into my early 1969 100w Marshall head ( dimed ) into my late 60's Marshall 4x12. No pedals for rhythm tracks. Crappy Dunlop wah pedal for some of the solos.

Rikvee: werd

Peace,
Dave

This is so weird! I was JUST listening to the Four Horsemen album today... on Cassette!!! I'm surprised it wasn't worn out from playing it over and over again back when it came out. Very cool to see one of the boys is a TGP'er... Never listend to the second album, but loved the first...still do!

Dave,
Your tone on that first album is one of my all time favorite guitar tones.
I saw you guys at the Trubadour in Hollywood back in the late 80s/early 90s? (my memory's a little hazy). Great show.

Cool thread-gotta check out this band since the other bands the OP mentioned are all favorites, especially The Crowes. Nice to have the answer right from the source too! Welcome Dave! BTW Dave-the Four Horsemen Signature Guitar is awesome looking-love the relicing and fretboard wear and the pickup combo is perfect. Could you please send me a P.M. with some more info. Thanks.

I pulled this album out again this weekend-- damn, what a great one!

There HAD to have been some teles used on this album--- there are some tones on there that I can completely see someone crankin' with their tele or esquire through a beat up Marshall.

Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.

I think Haggis used a Tele with a Filtertron in the bridge position and did you see the limited edition Tele on their website?
