JAN 6L6wgb in a Super Reverb?
I have an NOS pair of Phillips JAN 6L6WGB that I want to try in my 67 Super reverb. Will these work if I rebias and give me earlier breakup. I see that they handle less plate voltage, is it safe if I rebias?

What's the plate voltage on the SR?
I use JAN Phillips 6L6WGB' in my Two-Rock and it's plate volate is 475 and the bias is set at 31ma. EDIT:I just looked it up and it seems a mid 60's SR' plate voltage ranges from 420-450.So,you'll be fine with the WGB'. Last edited by Sean French; 04-17-2009 at 05:21 PM. |

Gold:
I ran my '67 BFSR with NOS JAN Phillips 6L6WGB for years. It was by far my favorite sound out of that amp. The guy who did my amp work (Dave at Dave's Sound in Whippany NJ) suggested it after hearing what I was looking for. He may have switched rectifiers to lower the voltage. I cannot remember. It was no big deal, and sounded so beautiful. Dave would certainly remember the details. I also had a (non-invasive, easily removeable) master volume set up with that amp. That plus the tubes added up to a really versatile amp. Still loud as hell but I could get that hot "edge" at reasonable volumes when needed. |

They should work well and sound good. Go with a 5V4 rectifier to lower your B+.

Plate voltage is the key with these tubes. They sounds AMAZING but, get finicky over 450-470v. I would be careful if your amp is running over 470 but, that's me.
