What Tonebender clone for this?
I'm still not sure to recognize all the differences between MKI, MKII, MKIII, 2 knobs, 3 knobs, so please, where should I look at to nail this sound?

A MKIII. Not the reissue Colorsound though. That uses a different circuit using silicon transistors. Skinpimp makes a nice sounding MKIII, but I'm not sure he's taking orders at the moment. PM him.

The Proanalog MKIII isn't a Sola Sound MKIII circuit. It's his own design. I believe it's a tweaked MKII circuit.

Check out D*A*Ms website clips, probably the 66...My BYOC MKII doesn't sound like this. Maybe a Throbak Stonebender for that early Beck/Pagey tonebender |

My DAM 1966 doesn't get the sound in that clip. If it's a 1973 Tone Bender, then I am assuming it's a Mk III circuit. Much more gain than my 1966, which is a Mk 1.5/Vox Tonebender circuit with 2 trannys. The 1966 does more of a mid-late '60s fuzz tone as heard on the Buffalo Springfield records. In Super Bee mode, it gets very close to the first 2 Zeppelin albums. All this being said, the Coloursound in the clip is a great sound in it's own right!

I knew that would be the clip before I clicked on the youtube link
Its a great tone for sure- I have a Stonebender and while I love it, it really can't get that thick sounding. I had a BYOC ESV MkII also which won't get that sound. Anyone else have any ideas?

So...did we ever decide what to get for this tone if an original 1973 Tonebender is out of reach price wise???

I am at work and can't watch the video but can not help but mention the Prescription Electronics YardBox which just came in the mail to me this week. I was looking for that early Zep tone, particularly the fuzz riff to Led Zeppelin II's "Bring it on home" and I got to say, pretty much nails it. I have actually never really owned a pedal before where when I play it I think to myself "well thats early Page spot on". I am usually saying to myself "that KINDA sounds (fill in the blank)"

listened to that sample tonight... WOW. Yard Box is a different beast much more of a laid back tone, but I have not really had the time to play with a lot of settings to see if I can get that more aggresive tone

Skinpimp - Email the link to that clip and he'll match trannies to get that tone.
The MKIII I got from him pretty much nails that tone. He'll be back in production next week or so.The wait isn't very long.Worth it too.:BEER |
