Help me pick some new WCRs

Hi folks,

I am looking to buy a set of WCR's for my Les Paul standard. It currently has Dr Vs in there now, and while I like the neck pickup, the bridge pickup is not hot enough for me (not enough of a difference in output as compared to the neck) and it is VERY bright and kind of thin sounding. It kind of picks up transient high freq pick attack noises which don't compliment my playing style well unfortunately. I do like the airy warm charechter of the Dr.Vs and may try them in a semi hollowguitar or something...or maybe sell em.

I have a set of WCR Fillmores in my SG which I love!!! However I want something a little different (woodier) for the les paul . Was thinking about trying the goodwoods, but I know a lot of people like to mix goodwood/darkburst etc.. Which WCR set will give me the fat, warm PAF sound that the Dr. V's have in the neck, but a fatter, slightly less bright , yet still articulate bridge sound that sings for lead.

Thanks

Godwoods. Good Lord yes! I had goodwoods in my Les Paul and they were magnificent.

Email Jim at WCR - he'll help you decide! He's good people.

I put Goodwoods in a SG.....Really nice rockin PU's. I think it fits your desciption well. Darkburst are very good, one step mellower, but probally a little more then the DR V's

Thanks for the suggestions! I should call Jim, and will to purchase, but I appreciate your comments.

Answer me this...Have any of you had Goodwoods in a Les Paul and switched them out with Pickups you like better ? If so what were they and why ?

Thanks,

Ben

Goodwoods are not the same as Godwoods if you didn't know. Goodwoods are older and he now makes Godwoods.

I can't imagine anything sounding better in a Les Paul than Goodwoods. It was one of those jaw-dropping Holy CRAP moments for me. I'd had nice pickups before, but these blew me away. I can't say enough about them.

I then bought a set of Ironmans for my Jackson and was again blown away.

When it comes to humbuckers, Jim is the MAN.

Try the American Steele set. It is a GW bridge and a Crossroads neck. The Crossroads neck will be more like the Dr V you like for your neck pickup, and the GW will give you the woody bridge tone.

I have 3 LPs. One has a set of WB 6707 Vintage Hots, one has a set of Throbak SLE Limiteds, and one has the American Steele set.

WCR's are killer but you could also have Wolfe rewind your bridge pickup to what you want. I'd give him a ring and tell him what you're looking for.
