Played a way cool new Rice Custom model yesterday...

Just thought I'd post this to share my excitement over a really cool guitar I got to mess with yesterday. It's a new model that the folks at Rice Customs are developing tenatively called the "double". Hollowed out mahagony body with maple cap and typical stellar Rice build quality. The two things that stood out about this guitar was the tone and the feather-light weight. Clarity, warmth, and this cool, swelling sustain that you've really got to hear.

These guys are really taking things to the next level with their new designs. This one even featured custom wound pickups that one of the Rice brothers are winding themselves.

Anyway, if you're ever in the area...you owe it to yourself to check one of these out.

Umm, sorry. I hate reliced guitars. Somebody had to say it.

That looks like one of my piles of amps...it is my pile of amps!!

I got to play her for a few hours after stringup, before my dad grabbed on and wouldn't let go. As our first true setneck, this was a definite learning process. Part of the build was documented on TDPRI, and part on our forum (if you're into that sort of thing).

I actually got to play this guitar and it was great. I got some great tones from it with a deluxe reverb. I'm hoping to get some money together to see if I can get the Rices to build me a set neck single cutaway. I've tried a bunch of guitars lately (Gibson, PRS, etc) but I think what I'm looking for might need to be custom made.

I caught a 30 second video of my dad playing his guitar at the Chicago Guitar Show today. The amp is a Vox AD30VT on a Fender Bassman preset.

JakeELee, it was great talking with you there.
Any other TGPers coming out to the show tomorrow?

This is such a breathtakingly beautiful guitar. I played it at the Rice Custom Guitar Workshop last week, and if there was one humbucker-ed guitar on the earth I could choose to have, it would be that one (I know it's not for sale, Rich, and I'll stick with single coils for now, anyway).
