Question Princeton Reverb + 12" speaker?

Any of you PRRI owners ever replaced the 10" for a 12" speaker?
I have a 12" Jensen Special Designed (ceramic) that I just pulled out of my
Tweed Deluxe. I thought, why not put it in my Princeton Reverb Reissue?

Is it an easy fix? Did it change the sound dramatically? Are Princeton's really better sounding with 10's?

Feedback (no pun) needed pls.

my friend has a 12" in his vintage PR and it sounds killer, more top end and definitely allows for more boost and gain

I put a 12" baffle in my '68 PR, along with a Deluxe output transformer, and the well-known phase inverter mod. It made a huge difference in terms of volume and tonal range. I have tried three speakers in the modded PR.

The amp sounded big and bright with an Altec 417, like a scaled-down Twin with JBLs. With an Emi Red Fang the OD tones were smoother but the speaker compressed too much when playing clean and trying to keep up with a drummer. I'm using a Scumnico now and it seems like an ideal match.

With either of these speakers the amp sounds much louder and fuller than it did unmodded with the original Oxford 10". It is quite similar to a DR, in terms of volume, but overdrives less than a DR. It's my favorite amp for playing clean, and there is lots of headroom so it takes pedals very well.

I think they sound better with a 12. Actually any single speaker amp does (based on everything I've heard).

Basically I just wanted to add headroom and volume if I can without losing it's really cool character. I had a DRRI it was a good amp, but I find it has a noisier 2nd channel specially with the tremolo on. I think the PRRI is sweeter and a tad quieter and the reverb is just glorious. Where can I get a bigger baffle?

Mojo has them - offset to the side

Also Rodgers Amps on Ebay has them centered

Just put a patch speaker cable from the 10" amp to the 12" cabinet.

I had a '74 SFPR for over 30 years as the original owner. If it had a 12" speaker, I'd probably still have it. Unfortunately, it had the glued in baffle, and since I sold it for needed money, having a custom cab made was not an option. I refused to hack the original cab. I agree that a single speaker amp sounds better with a 12". The new reissue '65 has a removable baffle, and I'm sorely tempted to get one and get that offset baffle and a JBL D120. The Altec 417 or Cerwin Vega 123 were also top considerations.

Totally agree on the reverb on those beauties. Very few amps can touch them. Sometimes when I listen to old tapes I've made of my playing, aside from flinching from the clams, when I had cleans with the reverb it really makes me miss that amp.

I have a BF Princeton reverb. I bought it used and someone had already modified the existing baffle for 12" operation. My favorite amp!

I have tried a bunch of speakers. Ilike the Weber 12F150, 12F150B, Cannabis Rex is awfully nice too. I think you can't go wrong with a 12" in a Princeton reverb amp!
