Amazingly cool ... Just goes to show how much fun you can have with one chord. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! My hands are sore from my hard work!

It's very interesting that what you think about me..... and what I think about myself... what a different! I always want to have good foundation ..good skills... but I never felt I have enough technique.. I can't play fast!

Which videos? Thank you!

Tomo

Prof Tomo:

I posted this pic on another forum earlier this week to demonstrate what is necessary to play guitar reasonably well. Theses are the calluses of someone who plays every day of every week.

I have your AYGP DVD, and enjoy it very much, and also watch the videos that you post to youtube.

It is great that you share your teaching with all of us here, as well as at Berklee. Thank you!

i don't think i can play as fast as i'd like to either, Tomo.....and i think most guitar players feel that way.

i have known Yngwie for nearly 15 years now, and have sat down with him and played guitar. when he plays, it is almost SUPERHUMAN how fast he can play. the last time i sat with him, i asked him to show me specific parts of his songs, such as the "Trilogy Suite". he played those parts EVEN FASTER than the record. it was HUMBLING

and there are many players that i love who can break the sound barrier with speed. eric johnson, john petrucci, paul gilbert, john mclaughlin, al dimeola, etc.

BUT - for the majority of WORKING professional guitarists in the world, that kind of speed is NOT essential, and in fact may be a detriment.

while it is true that playing ultra fast flashy licks is quite impressive (to the other guitar players), to the average audience member it is not.

and pro working guitarists get paid to play RHYTHM GUITAR 90-95% of the time. yes, that's right. RHYTHM GUITAR. i don't get hired because i can play flashy arpeggios at 64th note speed. i get hired because i can play solid rhythm guitar, can sing well, and can pick up a song quickly "on the fly" without having to read or learn it in advance.

there was one tour i did with a famous blues guitarist where i was only allowed ONE solo per night.

so although i sometimes wish i could make that kind of speed happen, i do not "fret" about it. i stopped trying to break the speed barrier years ago, and focused more upon my rhythm chops and my vocals.

your video demonstrates skills that will get the real working guitarists PAID more than fancy fast solos ever will.

lead guitar is a skill that thrills, but RHYTHM GUITAR is what pays the bills

Hi Gregory,

Thank you so much! You can do... it's important to have a solid foundation of muting and relax hands.
