For amps, I'm liking the Sennheiser e906 a lot. It catches what I hear. For vocals, are you looking for recording or live usage? I've got a Shure Beta 58 that I'm really happy with and have recorded with it.

I also have and like the Sennheiser e906. Tough to beat for the price.

Peace.

I like using my sm57 on amps and for recording vocals I normally use my AKG Perception 200

another for the 906. I also really like the sennheiser md421 for a: toms and kick, b: guitar cabs and c: voice.

i would always recommend an audix i5 over a shure sm57

Look, we all know home-ec is a joke - no offense - it's just that everyone takes this class to get an A, and it's bull$h!t - and I'm sorry. the audix i5 works really well on vox type amps. Also try some cheaper large diaphram condensers or ribbon mics. If you have the money the Royer ribbon mic sounds really well on cabs as well as large diaphram Shure mics. For the vocals in the studio i would go with Neumann if you cant quite afford that the Rode Nt1a sound great. For live vocal the Shure Beta 58 is the greatest.

+1 on the Audix I5. Smoother tone than the SM57 to my ears.

I love using audix d3 mics for guitar.... super killer flat response! For vocals I'm one of those beta 87c guys... Real warm and just great sounds!

What's your budget look like? The Blue Woodpecker is an incredible vocal microphone. It's an active ribbon mic (yes, I said active), and it is very rich, thick, warm and natural sounding. It has an "intimate" quality that is hard to describe. It sounds great with the Blue Robbie microphone tube preamp. It's a bit pricey though, but well worth it in my book. It also sounds great with acoustic guitar.

Like I said in another thread here, I tried the SM57, Audix I5, EV664A and finally the E906, which I decided to bought for myself. The order I wrote is from the worse to the best, being the SM57 the worst from them and the E906 the best by far.
I donīt have any affiliation with Sennheiser... Iīm just a musician.

Has anyone tried both, the Audix i5 and the Shure sm57 together? Do they compliment each other, or are they to much of the same voice?
