Fender Super Amp??

Hey Guys,
I know where one of these is for sale, but can't find any info out about it. Does anybody know specs on this? Is it just a blackface super reverb, minus the reverb? Any info would be great.

That looks like a brown Super thats had a paint job or new tolex and grill as well. The brown Supers had the 64GA I if remember correctly as opposed to the the AB763 Blackface. Those brown Supers are very cool amps indeed!

My friend you have either a brown 61 to 63 brownface 2-10 Super chassis in a recovered cab with a new single twelve baffle or a new cab and baffle with an old chassis...

Those prices are actually only what has sold on eBay, in someone's opinion of what constitutes a good condition. It's not terribly accurate because it doesn't actually show true condition of the amps themselves.

That price for this amp is way off base. If the amp was a 1960-1964 Brownface Super in good condition, that is probably close, but this amp has a lot of changes, and there is little to be sure of. The value is probably more like about half that.

(and to me, that panel looks black, which means it isn't a brownface amp. The other possibility is that it is an amp with a repro faceplate. There have been a few companies that have made them in non-original styles, such as a blackface Super, which doesn't exist).

Any chance of a shot of the rear of the amp, or some numbers off the transformers, or even a gut shot of the amp?

That looks like the inside of a trailer?

Definately looks like a brownface, and the control layout sure looks correct, correct style knobs but it is either a transition year in black, or extremely non-original.

Brownface Info

+1

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm going to check it out this weekend, it's about an hour away and that's all the info/pictures I have at the moment. It really does look like a brownface, and I hope it is, but the black threw me for a loop.

Some of my best finds have came out of the worst looking trailer parks.

Im thinking the original cab is just sporting a nice coat of black krylon. Check out the how the hardware on the corners look like they are black as well.

Sure looks like a brown face to me, with brown knobs. The lighting/reflection can make it hard to tell whether it is really black, but I think it's brown.

I agree, a 'modernized' Brown Super. Be sure and try the normal channel. It sounds the best on mine. Be prepared, these suckas are loud!

That's a brown Super chassis in a later cabinet. It could be a Fender 1x12 Concert or Fender "75" cabinet from the early 80's?

Well, the BF faceplate looks original, so I'm going to suggest that it's a transitional amp from late 62-63. The cab is unlikely, but if there's a 6G4A tube chart inside there it's just possible that it's original. If the speaker is a 62-63 Jensen or Oxford, it'd lend more credence to the idea. It's not must a painted brown amp because then the faceplate would be brown and the knobs creme. Pull the chassis, check out the transformers to see if they're correct (606-2xx or 606-3xx). See if the tubes are right (6 preamp, 2 power, tube rectifier?). If the chassis is right, speaker is right, tube chart is right, it's probably worth $1500 as a "questionable" transitional amp. If anythings wrong, more like $800-1000 as a modded amp, still very cool and I'd own it...
