Plainfield, NJ music capital of America?

I find myself going to Plainfield, NJ at the end of June. Is there anything music related worth seeing while I'm there (music stores, venues, builders, anything)?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what's in the area, but you're less than an hour to NYC.

The Summer Philly Guitar show will be held on July 11-12. If you are still in the area, you should check it out. This is the "Great American Guitar Show" produced by Bee-3 entertainment. They also produce the Arlington, TX shows.

Thanks for the tip drive-south. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending upon your point of view, I'll only be in Jersey for the 3rd week of June. I plan on visiting New York City during that time as I've never been out there so I may try to find music in New York City.

Thanks,

Well, there's not much there in terms of stores or builders, but there are some: in Somerville, you have Sommatone Amps; Owen Duffy is a pickup winder in North Plainfield; Mark Simon is a builder of Resonator instruments in Bridgewater, I believe. There are also many good players and teachers in the area. I live nearby and teach lap steel and some guitar.

I'm sure there's plenty going on in NY in June, but if you're into Rock and have a car, there's some stuff around NJ, I'm sure. Can't help you much with that, though. Check out Mexicali Blues.

Go see Les Paul at the Iridium, Tuesday nights in NYC. He's a legend and you may not get another chance.

I live in North Plainfield and the music scene is nil... There are a few local open mics but that's about it. Like many have said, grab the train and get yourself into the City!!

Golden Age in Westfield. Nice store, cool vibe.

Are you staying *in* Plainfield? (by which mean NOT in N. Plfd or S. Plfd)

Honestly? Not such a terrific place to be...

Luckily Plainfield has a train station!

Do what all the others said but do visit Golden Age up the road in Westfield and Lark St., Teaneck
If you get a chance go to Mandolin Bros on Staten island. Between these three you've covered the stores in NYC.
jmoo............

Best, Pete.

North Plainfield = OC Duff pickups. In general go to NYC, you are so close.

If you can't make it to NYC, you could check out New Brunswick. I went to college there, and although it's been a while, I'm sure the music scene is still lively.

At very least you'll be able to take a nice big sip of water from the ol' Raritan River...
