Landry LS100 - Wow!

I was fortunate enough to come across an absolute killer sounding '78 Marshall JMP Master Volume a couple of years ago after going through many JMP's on my extensive search for "The One".

It's been the benchmark for which I judge all others.
I could make a list, but trust me, I have run through the gamut of boutique amps in the Marshally vein, and non, IMHO even came close to the tone I get from my JMP.

Kudos to Bill Landry for building a great take on old school Marshall goodness.
It is the first, and only, boutique amp that can holds it ground against my tone monster JMP, and honestly after many hours of A/Bing the two, I'm having a bit of trouble saying the JMP sounds better.
Maybe for my tastes it does (but I'm cutting hairs), let's just say neither sounds "better", just slightly different in voicing and feel.

If late 70's to early 80's Marshall tone is what your after with more versatility, I highly recommend you give the Landry a listen.

Rock on! Did you buy the used one from Jay in the emporium? As everyone already knows, I think it's a GREAT amp!

Hey Chris,
Yup, got it from Jay.
He lives close by, so we met on Memorial day.
He just got the amp brand new from Bill Landry a few weeks ago, but just found out he & his wife are expecting a baby and he needs to turn his jam room into a nursery.

He hated to see this go, now I see why

Wow, you got a killer collection going man!

Billy had a prototype LS50 (serial number 0001 or something) and it was a KILLER amp. He picked it up and took it to the NY amp show. I wonder if that is what your buddy picked up. If so, I have personally played through that amp... And it is friggin' killer.

Very intriguing! How do they compare to that Cameron Jose you had for a couple of years?

Which Cameron Jose? LOL! I think I went through about six of them over the years.

Anyway, the Cameron modded Marshalls were very saturated and very forgiving......a blast to play.
They had more of a slight scooped mid tone ala EVH.

The Landry, even at higher gain settings is very clear, with full punchy mids.
Much less forgiving than the Cameron modded Marshallls, so it's a bit more challenging to play.
Well worth it though, considering the tone you get.

I knew Bill took an LS50 with him to the NY Amp Show, but wasn't sure if it was the one from Eddies Guitars. Guess it was. I haven't gotten to hear the 50-watter yet.

Jay had a 100-watter and that's what Braciola got from him. Serial number was probably 006 or so.

I describe the Landry as very punchy and clear too. I also had a Marshall 1959SLP Reissue modded by Mark Cameron with the Doug Aldrich mod and it rocked and like you said, it was very saturated and forgiving. Very, very fun to play, but this Landry is more my thing.

Owned a aldrich model really liked it but was not as articulate as I like. Played all of braciolas camerons too and they were among the best Marshall style amps out there. I'm more of a hard rock guy than a metal guy, and the Landry was much more geared towards that (and me). I will probably own a landry at some point
