Amp returned for repair-how long of a wait?

In October, I sent my amp back to the builder for repair. Last month he said he was finally sending it back to me. So far no amp. Is 8 months an unreasonable amount of time to repair an amp?
Thanks.

8 months to repair an amp is about 6 1/2 to 7 months too long IMO.

DITTO! Way too long, unless of course your amp is part of the last 5 ever made of it's kind, then that is reasonable.

WTF???? Waaaaay, waaaaaaay too long for a repair. Hell he could have built a couple from scratch in that time... well obviously "he" couldn't, I should say.

I had an amp repair go a bit long but the dude kept in contact with me throughout the entire time and the amp returned in mint condition. sounded incredible, and with an brand new set of JJs. That was cool!!!!

Good luck man. Is the correspondance last month the only contact you have had with him since? Has he been in contact throughout the 8 months?

Contact has been sporadic, initiated by me. He did acknowledge getting the amp. He has told me he has some family issues...At this point, I just asked him to send the amp back unrepaired. I have my fingers crossed...

Wouldn't happen to be a little amp, would it?

How far away is he? Something is a bit stinky here. Don't be afraid to call on another forumite to pick up the amp and ship it back to you.

I have a '64 vibroverb out for over a year, darn guy kept saying he was still tweaking it. Kind of like holding it for ransom, then hit me with a huge bill when he was finished. I hate that, I could have replaced all the guts myself for less.

I prefer not to say. The builder isn't local either....

Update:

I got an email today telling me the amp was in his hands and it was shipping out.

I wonder if he thought I would be comforted by this email....

8 months is ridiculous. I can't believe the crap some of these indie builders pull.

I have a local guy who's turn around time is 1 week.

8 MONTHS? That's crazy.

His 'loving hands'? I'd tell him to hurry up and get your amp back before you put your foot up his 'lazy a$$'.

I agree...8 months is a joke. It's obviously someone who doesn't give a crap about you as a customer.

Angry

I replied that, until I was provided with documentation re: "shipping out", including tracking info, his email does change not the facts.

I am not holding my breath for a response.
