Blues Playing

B.B.King 's "The best of B.B. King Vol.1"

It was really cheap too. What a great cd! There are many great B.B.King's cds.... and other artists.

But you can learn so much about blues guitar playing from this cd.

Listen to this for while. No need i-Pod!

Definitely! I love some BB King. I transpose a lot of his licks to slide guitar. Live at the Regal is one of my favorite albums.

Less is more has never been more apparent than the BB albums.

B.B. took slide guitar licks to his bending style. Interesting... you are undoing again. That's cool. I love slide, voice.. all.

B.B. plays with his band with horns... pacing is great!

Live at the Regal is classic B.B album. I like Blues is king and others. I love B.B. King!!!

That's cool!

His horn section has some of the best lines as well. Really makes his guitar stand out with that extra push behind his licks.

One of my top guitarists to listen to as well.

I love his "Live in Japan" recording; it always gets overshadowed by Regal and Cooks County for live BB, but it cooks. The band is tight and BB stretches out on a few tunes.

Yeah, B.B. is awesome. There are clips of him and SRV playing together, and you realize how good B.B.'s tone is, when you hear it in that context. Fat and Warm. Full. Sweet (of course!).
I think it's kind of easy to take B.B. for granted, nowadays. After all, he's been around for so long, it's hard to imagine him not being around. But, he's still a Gold Standard kind of player.

What happens on Thrill Is Gone is pure magic. I just can't help but marvel at the way his great phrases line up, one after the next. There are some outstanding BB King videos on youtube. He's a giant for me.

Robben Fords tribute to BB is very nice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_rICW-fC-M

I shook BB's hand back in the '70s, have never washed it since, lol.

Robbens words sum it up pretty well for me.
BB lives within all of us that have been touched by him, Robben has and so have I.
Felt good to say that.

- that's Larry Carlton's son on bass

Awesome vid. I love how he never plays and sings simultaneously.

I was listening to some of his early stuff from the early 1950s yesterday - interesting to see how his style has developed from then but it still sounded great - the contrast between the smooth jazzy sound of the band, and then the raw stinging lead sound of the guitar is great, particularly on "Dark Is The Night - Part 2" where there's an extended big band-style intro before the guitar kicks in.

When I first saw him live in the early 80s, he did the thing where the band would start playing and then he's start soloing offstage before walking on - the sound of the guitar was incredible - so loud and full (but clean like high notes on a bass) - fantastic!!
