The old Lexicon MPX100 hall reverb vs the new Hardwire hall reverb

It's great lexicon finally got its reverb to a pedal.

But does it stand up to the real deal? Is it better or worse.
Sure the Hardwire is true bypass and has the awesome reverse verb that
sounds like your using a bow, very cool effect.

But I have the MPX100 and use it for the wonderful hall verb it has. Bill Frisell has used this reverb for years.
It's a labor of love for sure. It has it's own power pack and is the only rackmount unit I use so it sits on top of the amp. it's too big for my carrying case so it's one more item to move.

The Hardwire could share the same power as my other pedals and be put on my board making life much easier.

But is it as sweet as the old MPX100?

That's the question I'm asking you.

Thanks, fello pedal geeks

Hi
I have looked at this topic, personally if the Lexicon (or another Lexicon model) satisfies you then personally, I would take steps to modify your pedalboard so it "just works" with your other pedals.

As one of two examples;

Someone in the HC effects forum built an interesting new board where the plywood the pedals lay on was wedged up off the floor, so there the pedalboard had a nice space between the top and bottom layers of the board. I looked at it and thought you could fit a 1 unit rack mount in that space, he had good quality pics you can see.

Secondly, some people have mounted 1 unit rack mounts at the front of a pedal board so they can see the front panel (and it does not interfere with the pedals).
I think the bigger problem is possibly if you need/want MIDI switching and/or use of an effects loop.

Conversely, some people just sit a rack mount on top of their amp, which would be convienient if you want it in an effects loop.

I hope this helps.

In a live setting, are you really going to be able to detect the subtleties between the two? Probably not. Stick with the pedal. The Hardwire is probably the best overall verb pedal out there.

Also, the MPX100 is a pretty cheap dual channel processor. Its more about versatility than sound quality. There are much better processors out there.
