Anyone heard/tried one of these? I saw one on ebay - not cheap but I'd like to know more.

Yes, I've heard one up close. Excellent Marshall-in-a-box; best I've heard. Does a range of Marshall tones really well, mostly JTM45 to JCM800.

Scott at Axe And You Shall Receive has them:

Yeah that's where I saw them! He sells on Ebay too. Scott seems like a great guy. I'm wondering how the Montreux compares with Menatones and the BYOC Shredder.

I picked up a used Knebworth last week and used it for my gig this past weekend.

The good:

Great that it has a 3 band EQ and it seems to be effective. Too many high gain pedal are either too thin, or are like the Box of Rock, which I found way too bassy. With a bass pot I can match the optimal amount of bass to my rig.

It sounds like a Marshall alright. Great range of Marshall tones with the toggle switch. The modified setting sounds a lot like my Hi Gain Dual Master.

The boost is very transparent. I boosted my Timmy with it a couple of times and liked the result.

The bad:

The boost is before the gain circuit rather than after. Not a huge issue if you're using the boost to further saturate the signal feeding the gain side. This effectively gives you two different gain tones, with the boosted signal just slightly louder than the unboosted signal. If you're thinking about using the boost for a big jump in volume, it probably won't do that unless you have the gain very low (and with a Marshall in a box pedal that seems unlikely to me).

Preliminary Verdict:

I think I'm gonna like it a lot, but I'm still dialing it in. I've tried it with a Fender Hot Rod and a Maz 18 at the store, and through my Maz 38 2x12 at the gig. It sounds as good as any Marshall in a box pedal that I've tried. Way better at medium and high gain than a Rat, every bit as good at medium gain as my old Menatone 5 knob KOTB, and really reminded me of my old V1 Crunchbox for high gain. Next I'll try it in the clean channel of my Shiva and see how it fares compared to the dirty channel.

Best of all, I got it for $165.00 CDN. I see they go $299 new.

It's a great pedal, best marshall type pedal I have heard yet. It does sound best
through a loud clean amp IMO.

Thanks for that. Love the gearmandude video, particularly the Klon intro. Great stuff!
